President George W. Bush today announced his intention to accord the Personal Rank of Ambassador to one individual and nominate one individual to serve in his Administration.

The President intends to accord the Personal Rank of Ambassador to Thomas A. Schweich, of Missouri, during his tenure as Coordinator for Counternarcotics and Justice Reform in Afghanistan. Mr. Schweich currently serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement at the Department of State. Prior to this, he served as Chief of Staff at the United States Mission to the United Nations. Earlier in his career, he served as a Partner of Bryan Cave, LLP. Mr. Schweich received his bachelor's degree from Yale University and his JD from Harvard University.

The President intends to nominate Michael J. Sullivan, of Massachusetts, to be Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives at the Department of Justice. Mr. Sullivan currently serves as United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts. Additionally, in September of 2006, Sullivan was designated Acting Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives at the Department of Justice. Prior to his Federal service, he served as District Attorney of Plymouth County in Massachusetts. Earlier in his career, he served in the Massachusetts State House of Representatives. Mr. Sullivan received his bachelor's degree from Boston College and his JD from Suffolk University.

Someone needs to look up his voting record while serving

Haven't found his voting record, but I did find this profile of him; http://www.justiceforall.duq.edu/facSullivanM.html

Michael J. Sullivan was appointed United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts by President George W. Bush in 2001. His priorities include terrorism, health care fraud, gun violence, drug trafficking, organized crime and public corruption.

Looks like code words for "gun grabbber" to me.

If the Brady Gang isn't screaming and yelling that his appointment will allow blood to flow in the streets, he's likely a gun grabber.

As U.S. Attorney in Massachusetts, he would have been working closely with Boston Mayor Tom Menino in various gun interdiction programs. Were his efforts focused on prosecuting "felons with guns" as both Project Exile and Project Safe Neighborhoods were intended to do, or did he go beyond that when playing with Menino. Recall Menino is Mayor Bloomberg's right hand man in his Mayors Against Gun Violence campaign.

If I had to assume, I would not assume good things.

If W would appoint me, I could promise to have the entire agency in disarray (and ready for dismantle) within a few months (and at a lower salary). Legitimate forensic duties, if any, would be transfered to the FBI.

Anyone with W's ear, feel free to drop my name.;)

this has been done on purpose, it's payback from the bush regime for us not slavishly supporting him in november

Bush should have really gave the Democrats the finger and appointed Ted Nugent. Now that is one Confirmation hearing I want shown not only on TV but the BIG SCREEN.

Do you all think we should send in our resumes for the vacancy?

No good will come of this. None.

Bush has gone on the record to say that he'd support a new AWB, presumably a permanent one. He's just appointed a director to the ATF who is most evidently in league with the 'new aristocracy' - the Republicrats, RINOs, militant socialists, or whatever else you want to call them.

You can guess which way his confirmation will go, with a large percentage of the Republicans in the senate being RINOs, with a Democrat majority to boot. And you think the abuses perpetrated by the ATF (and FBI) under Clinton were severe...

ATF directors have to be confirmed since 2005. You can write your senators and tell them to oppose his confirmation.
Well if you're going to write, and you hope not to look like loons that will oppose anyone who is nominated, you all better come up with some reasons better than "he's Irish and from MA."
