my mosquito is 3.9" long. (semi auto sig mosquito)

the henry is gone :(

you tell me what, and maybe sunday (if i have enough time to make up another batch of experiments saturday night) ill drag the chrono out.

better yet- i need to get some 62's loaded for my .223 and chrono it. ill bring the conversion with me. idk if that will be this weekend though, i have to work on saturday, and a BIG ass fire is behind my house at the moment :(

So...

halo...

You can chrono 4", 16", and 18.5" with your current firearms?

What if I send you a 11.5" 10/22 barrel to BORROW for testing? I'll provide return postage. :)

I'm really only interested in velocities with Aguila SSS 60gr since this is the only SS .22LR ammo I expect to shoot.

This will give us 4", 11.5", 16", and 18.5" velocities... in no way complete but not bad.

sure! im all about borrowing :)
im sure you have paper work and all that fun, right? i dont have a 10/22 receiver to drop it on, is it gonna be the whole gun?
im in houston area, howsabout you?

the skeeter needs new sights- ill order that up so its not wasted.
my AR needs some love with 62's to see if it shoots better than 55's.
my coastal 10/22 is just fun as hell to shoot in the first place :)

Paperwork...

NO... I don't currently have a SBR Stamp... something I'll need to get in addition to a Sound Suppressor Stamp... but you'd need that on your side anyway, right? Hmm... maybe this is needed per serial-numbered rifle?? This may be an exercise in futility!! Now, if I or you had a Ruger CHARGER..... I wasn't going to ship the entire firearm but... dunno.

I live in SATX.

i dont play the gray scale of NFA or class III weapons, sorry.

my 10/22 is internally/integrally suppressed..... thus the entire gun has to stay together and is stamped accordingly.

my threaded suppressors are obviously stamped/engraved because they can be threaded on and off.

your not in houston? you have to stay with your class III item, since its you who applied and was approved for the item, not me. im not a class III FFL, so it wont work.

if your in houston area, (anyone for that matter) if you want to toss a few peices of lead over my chrono, let me know, i have no issues with it.

Okay, halo, please forgive my ignorance. I suppose I'll just have to "guess" which is the better barrel length (11.5" or 16") to shoot Aguila SSS as close to 1050 FPS through a sound suppressor as is practicable. My gut feeling is a 11.5" barrel is best even though I'll need a SBR stamp.

lemme shoot my AR and see what happens.

i GUESS i could bring my thread-on and when using the .22 stuff i could see what happens on my AR :)

Your AR is a 16" 1:8? Close enough for the 16" 1:9 barrel I have but I'd really like to see other options too specifically 10-12" 1:9 barrel. I didn't realize there would be SBR stamp issues but, of course, there are. Doggone BTAFE control/tax freaks!!

ETA: Halo, do you know anyone with a Ruger Charger, T/C, or other long-ish barrel .22LR pistol with 8"-12" barrel?

Thinking out loud about the SSS ammo. Its 60gr, and there are lost who make 40gr .22lr. But seems to me a "hot" .22LR with a 50gr would kinda be in the middle, if they could get it to run subsonic say around 1,000fps, but 50gr, that would hold some serious energy.

Anyways.

I have a 10/22 with a 16.5" Tactical Innov 1:9 twist. I chronoed the SSS 60gr Aguila -- Avg 880 fps at 5 paces from muzzle, 55 Deg F. My notes indicate a 5 shot, .5" 25 yd group.

Note the temp -- probably get higher vel with warmer temps.

Haven't experienced any failure to feed/eject.

A least one data point for you.

Paul

The 60 gr SSS goes 815 fps from a 4 inch Ruger 22/45. Very consistent. I have also seen 880 fps from a 16 in barrel somewhere. Hope that helps a little.

Havent chronoed the 60 gr from the CZ452 but it shoots into 1 inch at 50 yards. The bullets are keyholing, though. No good at 100 yards.

OT, found one of the Ruger made 25 shot mags. Works flawlessly. Even with Wally World Remington bulk Golden bullet that jam in my 10 rounders.

It's interesting that velocity is roughly the same from 4" and 16.5" barrels. That may support the idea that the SSS has very fast burning powder. I'd sure like to see chrono data from 8, 10, and 12" barrels.
