It seems to me that brightness wise and cost wise, these are pretty comparable if you add in the P61 120 lumen bulb for the G2. The Nightfighter-2 is 100 Lumens out of the box.

How about aluminum body but glass lense of the NF-2, vs. the polymer G2? Which has the durability advantage?

The NF-2 does come with a nice grip ring and lanyard.

The G2 has a rechargable conversion kit available.

They are both about the same size and weight.

What's the general opinion of these two lights?

BTW, if anybody is interested in these lights, Natchez has some great prices on them:

Sure Fire G2 Nitrolon, Black, p/n FHG2BK $28.95 (on sale)
Sure Fire 120 Lumen hi-output Lamp for G2,6P,Z2, p/n FHP61 $20.16

Streamlight Nightfighter-2, Xenon, Black, p/n SM88002 $47.29

I think at those prices, I may just get one of each. :p

In my quest for flashlight knowledge, I also came across these two review:

The Surefire G2 is very sturdy. I've been using one as a weaponlight on an AR even though it isn't designed for it and isn't recoil or shock isolated.

Well, since nobody but Bartholomew had any experiences with these lights (thank you for your comments BTW), I'll post mine.

I bought both from Natchez along with a P61 120 Lumen lamp for the G2 and just got them today. They are both very nice lights and also pretty affordable for this class of light.

The G2 has a fatter body and the button on the tailcap sticks out. That makes it easier to manipulate, but since I bought these for pocket carry, both points are a drawback to me. The G2 has a fixed focus and did not come with any spare bulb. I like the polymer body and it's texture allows a good grip on it. The G2 might be slightly lighter in weight, but not very noticibly. The momentary switch has a nice positive click to it. This is clearly a well made and durable light.

The NF-2 is thinner if you take the adjustable grip ring and belt clip off. An allen wrench is provided to do so. However, that also prevents use of the enclosed lanyard. It also comes with a spare bulb enclosed in a special compartment inside the light. The body is lightly knurled, but the grip is not nearly as non-slip as the G2. The NF-2 looks and feels very much like a stubby 2AA Maglight, but *much* brighter. The NF-2 has a recessed momentary button on the tailcap. The only thing that concerns me about the NF-2 is it's push in "pin" bulbs. Perhaps, I'm worrying about nothing, but I've seen this type of bulb rattle loose in Maglights. I think I'll carry it lense up in my pocket for added piece of mind.

Overall brightness is about the same with the optional P-61 120 lumen bulb in the G2 and the standard 100 lumen bulb in the NF-2. It's dark and rainy right now. I just went for a walk around outside comparing both lights. I think I'd have to give a slight nod to the NF-2 for long range visability due to it's focusable lense. The G2 difuses the light a bit, making things around you a bit brighter. The NF-2 allows a sharp pencil beam, to put more illumination on far objects with less local distraction. It also allows you to put more concentrated light on a close object as well.

They are both excellent lights for the price. However, if I was to buy just one, I'd have to say I prefer the NF-2, even though the G2 seems better made and sturdier. The NF-2 is just more versitile, thinner, but just as bright as the G2. I'm going to carry the NF-2 daily. The G2 will serve as a backup and house flashlight. Perhaps later, I'll get another G2 just to keep in the glove box of the car.

You can also convert your G2 into a 100 lumen (with an hour runtime) or a 200 lumen (with a 20 minute runtime) flame thrower just by adding a few parts.. :D

The parts that are needed to do the conversion:

Parts list:

1) AN14 adapter - $6.00-7.00

2) P90/91 Lamp - $20-24.00

3) B65 battery spacer - $4.00-5.00

4) Z32 Shock isolated bezel - $20.00 [ This part is optional. It is recommended because of its Pyrex lens. The stock lexan lens may melt with the P91 L.A. installed. ;) ]

5) An extra battery.

These pics aren't mine. I just pulled them from candlepowerforums.com.. But, I have done this conversion to my black G2 and it is awesome! It throws out a beam that you have to see to believe! Hehehe.

(Think of this light as an affordable C3 Centurion.)

Lanyard? I have no idea how this individual attached it to his light. I'm still trying to figure that one out. ;)

Parts? I got mine here:

On closer inspection, it looks like he pulled the end cap and wrapped a wire with a loop in it around the tube, then screwed the end cap down on it.

Thanks for the link!

To add to Bartholomew's positive experience, I used a G2 attached to a Mossberg 590 during a night match. It survived the match, and still worked after the daytime match the next day. Maybe 50 rounds total, 12 gauge 00 Buck and slugs.

Grant from G&R Tactical did a group buy a bit back, he's a good guy, I was able to stock up enough G2's for the cars, our "Oh crap the lights went out and I am not sure what is going on bag", a couple by the nightstands etc.

I trust my world to Surefire, we've a couple Mags and battery operated lanterns in the closets for GP use and the like, but if it were ever a real emergency I would be looking to my collection of Surefires that include several G2s, 6Ps, L1s, A2s, L4, M2, M3, M4, M6, E2e's and a couple of bricks of 123's I have laying around and in spares carriers, not to mention my weapons mounted lights to make sure we got through everything okay.

If you're looking to pick some up I would highly recommend the G2 for everyday use and Surefire in general.

But dat's me:D

Check with Grant, I am sure he can beat any price out there. You'd probably save enough money with him and get yourself an E2e to EDC.
