i was think of buying a commander size 1911 with an alloy from. i like either the SW1911 scandium or the springfield armory lightweight champion operator.

i'm not sure which one to get.

i can get a SW easily, but if i want a SA, i'd have to wait for who knows how long, they're hard to get ahold of.

which one should i get?

I have had outstanding results with S&W 1911s. I have had mediocre results with Springfield, but a lot of people like them.

I think S&W 1911s are the most underrated 1911 on the market today. No one pays them much attention, but they are excellent guns, and backed up by a company that has excellent customer service (unlike Springfield and Kimber, IMO).

I have a SA 1911 LTWT Champion Operator, which I've been very pleased with. Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service. Don't think you could go wrong with SW either; they have a very good reputation. Decisions, decisions. ;)

Choose based on what you'll use it for. Personally I wouldn't get a rail, bull barrel, and ambi safety if you're going to carry it ... but if it's just a range gun then why not. If you are going to carry it then maybe the models with officers size frame and commander barrel would be a better option.

As far as brands, I've had great luck with them all - Kimber, Sig Sauer, Springfield, S&W, Fusion, Colt, even RIA. Just pick based on whatever features you want.

I recently sent my Springfield Armory 1911 back for some minor work. The customer service rep was very nice on the phone. They paid shipping both ways since it was under warranty. Had it back in my safe in about a week. No complaints from me. YMMV.

why do people suggest no bull barrel? is it not durable or something?

I’m told that 1911’s with bull barrels have the potential to be less accurate than a 1911 with a standard barrel because they do not utilize a barrel bushing. If that’s true I apparently don’t have the shooting skill to demonstrate the difference in accuracy. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong. :)
