Am looking at packaging on ball surplus, 15 rounds on strippers in heavy whitish paper with alot of Arabic writing. The label or tape that holds the package closed has a black royal looking eagle with wings outspread abit. Is this Syrian ammo or some other country from that region, its coming along with a deal for a MAS 49/56, does anybody know? I,ll end up reloading anyway, thats a given. Thanks

Sounds like syrian ammo I bought back in the 80's. Mine did not come on stripper clips.

The stuff is berdan, and I think it is corrosive. So wash everything out with hot soapy water to remove the corrosive primer salts.

I shot it in a MSA 36-51 and got these velocities. Accuracy was awful. About the size of a pie pan at 100 yards. (but then, that MAS was at best a 3 MOA, maybe 4 MOA rifle) It has been a while, but I remember measuring the bullet diameter and it was smaller than what it should have been.

140 gr FMJ Syrian Ball ammo
17-Apr-92 T ≈ 80 °F
Ave Vel = 2724
Std Dev = 11
ES = 28
Low = 2708
High = 2736
N = 8

That accuracy may have sucked, but that's pretty darn nice SD and ES for mil-surp ammo! If only it fit right!
