I am thinking of getting a T/C Encore pistol/rifle in 308 for plinking etc. I have a supply of Port. and Australian 308 to use up and wonder if anyone has used surplus in theirs. Tried a search here and on TFL but no real help. One guy stated he used South African in his Encore rifle and did not indicate any problem. Tech rep at T/C recommended against. Any input would be appreciated.

Mooseman: No corrosion problems. T/C rep was just against using military brass as might be thicker etc. Just trying to avoid problems as my "toys" money is limited. Thanks

Can't see any reason why it would pose any issues. As far as I know, the external brass dimensions are the same (no neck issues) and the pressures generated between 308 and 7.62NATO are similar enough that no rifle chambered for one should have an intrinsic issue with the other.

I also don't see any problem with the surplus ammo. Most gun manufacturers don't want you to shoot reloads in their products either.
