Hi All, I tried searching threads for this topic but didn't find anything so I was hoping to get some responses from XD40 owners with tactical lights.

I just purchased an XD9102 Service Model .40cal, 4" barrel and I am currently waiting to pick it up. (California 10 day waiting period) :cuss:

The Tac Lights below are the ones I have seen and "tried on" at the shop and the description of what I thought. Any input or experiences is greatly appreciated because I want to have the light by the time I pick up my XD.

1) Insight Technology X2 Sub Compact Tactical Illuminator
This one seemed a bit too small for the XD40, it went all the way back on the rail and was very secure, was easy to take on and off but I am hoping for something LED, and brighter, but that is not definite. This one is around 40 Lumens, not very bright compared to others I've been researching.

2) Streamlight M3 Tactical Gun Mount Illuminator
This one looked great on the XD but it overhangs the end of the rail by just a tad, I'm sure that's fine but it is NOT LED and was very difficult to remove once on. Does anyone own this light? I'm leaning twards something this size.

The one I have not been able to try on but looks good as far as pricing goes and is LED and seems to get great ratings everywhere I look is the Streamlight TLR-1 LED Tactical Gun Mount Weaponlight I looked at the specs on this one and it comes with different adaptors for different rail types, I'm not sure about that. I am finding it online and don't want to buy this one if it does not fit the XD40, more specifically the 9201 Model. Does anyone own this TLR-1 LED on an XD40? I see reviews of owners of XD45's and they love it but nothing on the XD40.

Thanks a bunch everyone, I look forward to the responses.

i have the M3 and had the XML when i had my XD9 sub. IMHO the XML was too small when i put it on my XD40 Tactical. the XML wasn't as bright either.

i just picked up a TLR-1 for a friend when i was at a gun shop. here are what i found between that and my M3:

- runtime on the TLR-1 is 2.5 hours, i thought that it would be longer seeing that it is using LED technology. 80 lumen
- M3 60mins, so i guess 2-3hours is pretty good. 80-90 lumens
- both use two CR123A batteries
- the TLR & M3 are the same size, so if you have a holster for the M3, it'll work with the TLR.
- the M3 slides on the front and has a spring loaded latch.
- the TLR you mount from the side, then fasten down with a finger screw to secure the light to the weapon. if being able to mount the light quickly, the M3 wins hands down.
- the M3 can be focused. IIRC, the TLR is a fixed beam.
- after 1 range outing (~20-30 rds), the TLR's aluminum light bezel was powder burned. (friend shoota G19)
- the TLR has a few different inserts to mount on different weapons. it's just a small plastic piece that you put in depending on the mount.
- the TLR has a whiter/cooler (Kelvin) light
- TLR is aluminum. M3 plastic.
- TLR is waterproof. the M3x (125Lumens) is waterproof

and that's all of the key things that i noticed at the moment.

I have a TLR-1 streamlight on my XD-40 and I really like it. I paid $100 for it, its very bright, very durable, and very efficient, LED. For the money, I don't think it can be beat. For the record, I take my light off when I'm shooting at the range, but when I'm home, it goes back on, for the remote chance of night-time home invasion.

Streamlight M3 Tactical...Does anyone own this light? I'm leaning towards something this size.

I’ve got the M3 and the XML (Springfield’s version of the X2). I’d go with the M3 for a full size gun-the XML is cute as hell :D, but definitely not as bright as the M3. Only reason I got an XML is some fella on eBay is selling a bunch for $60, and my CCW is an XD-40 SC, which the XML/X2 was designed for, and it fits/functions well (also fits my Taurus PT145). http://sporting-goods.search.ebay.com/XML_Hunting_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQsacatZ7301

‘Course, you might consider the M3X (I have an M6X on my AR) and the X series puts out 125 lumens vs. 90 lumens for the non ‘X’ series of lights.
If you can find the M3 cheaper than the M3X, I wonder if you can just replace the bulb on the M3 if/when it gives out with the bulb for the M3X?
I see Botach Tactical has the M3X for $99.95 so unless you find a helluva deal on an M3, skip it and get the M3X (if you decide on the M3 series).

Can’t help ya with the LED versions-got all my tactical lights before the LEDs came out!
