i just checked gunbroker and thats a pretty fair price. saw one for just under 700 the rest were higher than 750

I can't talk you out of it, I have 2. As others have said it can kill at both ends with modern loads, ask me how I know. It only weighs 6 3/4 lbs.
The first one I bought had a broken butt-stock which repaired, shot a box of factory loads. It was fun, starting loads from Speer manual REAL fun, you should have seen the look on my 6' 4" 275 lb friend's face, looking at the gun like how did this little thing hurt me that much.

Go for it! Especially since you said you would reload. I have a #1 in 45-70. The round is a VERY versatile one for the reloader. You can use it on any animal on the continent AND have tons of fun at the range.

Heavy bullets with lots of powder are KILLERS (both ends). Moderate loads are great deer, hog loads. Big ole lead bullets and light (trapdoor) loads are very accurate and a hoot to shoot at the range. Boooommmm-wait-wait-wait---THOOOMP.

Nope. I ain't gonna be able to talk you out of it! Sorry.

I inherited my dads when he died. I used to hate the thing, as all we ever shot out of it were hotter factory loads, and it was brutal to shoot. I was going to sell it, but due to some rust and wear, found out it wouldnt bring much, I figured Id give it a try with with some lighter loads. Best thing I ever did, and Ive been shooting the hell out of it ever since. A 300 grain lead bullet over 14.0 grains of Trail Boss, and its a pussy cat, and an all day shooter. Accurate too.

Now Im hooked on 45/70. I picked up a Marlin 1895G a couple of months ago, and it too has been getting a work out. 45/70 is as quick and easy to load as pistol ammo, and gets shot up just about as quick. :)
