Met an older gentleman this weekend, his son had purchased from Caleba's a 1858 Stainless Steel revolver about two years back. He went to local gun store for powder and shot, where the owner warned him of the dangers of chain fire which made the man very wary about shooting it. We talked a few min. and he offered to sell it with all the accessories to me for $200.00. Instead of taking him up on the offer I explained how to load, how much powder and even offered to go with him to shoot the gun. Long story short- He retracted his offer to sell. But even though I didn't get the gun I feel good that maybe I helped turn another one to the dark side

I just picked up another 1858 Pietta blued .44 cal that gives me two each in 44 & 36, the 36 are consecutive serial numbers and unfired as of now.
Great to hear you made another convert.

Yeah, you did the right thing. Realistically, you can pick up another revolver any time. But your conscience would have bothered you. I love my Remington and would like to pick up a Colt Army at some point in the future.

no reason to feel bad, its always good to help another shooter out, almost all of us can say we fondly remember the people who helped us out when trying out new forms of shooting, reloading etc. i had a similar experience the first few time i shot b.p. (and to think i was worried about setting of caps by pressing gently them on LOL) but i try to help people out whenever i can when it comes to this kind of thing even if it means screwing myself outta a good deal, i had a very good friend offer me an mint imi uzi he inherited for $500 cash with 250 rounds of ammo, the carrying case and a few other things because he heard that uzi's where inaccurate jamming pieces of crap, and after a long talk and shooting off the 250 we had for it he changed his mind...and i showed him what there going for on gunbroker... needless to say he changed his mind and now whenever we talk i get a "thank you" so in the end i think its a good thing and im proud to tell people about it, even though i get my ass chewed out whenever i tell someone about the uzi, at the end of the day i feel better saying i helped a good friend out than saying i screwed a good man over, its good to see more people out there these days actually helping there fellow shooter, thanks for helping the guy out man...im not going to say it doesn't suck passing a good deal up though lol :), still trying not to kick myself in the ass for that one though...

Far better to gain another shooting buddy that'll smile and shake your hand in honest friendship than to get another gun. Good on ya for helping to spread the love and gain another convert to the Black Side... :D

It's nice to own a lot of guns, but it's a lot more fun when you have a posse to shoot them with, especially nowadays when everything's hectic and I find less time to hang out with my buddies. That guy now knows something he can use for the rest of his life and share with his kids and grandkids, thats gotta make a person happier than owning one more gun.
