Very nice new revolver, Vikz.
Not knowing much about newer model Taurus revolver, I can only assume the frame of this 617 of yours is a tad beefier than the model 605 (a 5-shot .357 mag snub). Looks like a fine, no-nonsense defensive handgun. Let us know how it shoots for you!

My dad has one of those. Excellent gun and you will definitely never be undergunned with it. I have been very impressed by the trigger pull as well.

Hi vikz new to the forum. Nice gun just put money down on a 617 myself. Hopefully will have it in a couple of weeks will post pics when I get it. How do you like it? Been hearing a lot of bad press on them. I have heard some good but, on these forums lot of negativity. Just curios on how you like yours and your impressions. Thanks

Very nice! I've carried a Taurus 605 for a long time. It's reliable and as accurate as you can get with a snubby. I'm sure you'll get many years of service from your 617.

looks good although one question, everything ive read says that the 7 shooters are supposed to be using the frame from a medium to large size 44 magnum revolver. that frame looks like it might be safe for 4 rounds of 44 mag in it.

Excellent! I think the 617 is on the medium frame, the 605 is the small frame. I have an older 3" 66 6 shooter medium frame and it carries well in a belt slide holster It's a bit bulky in an IWB, but I can carry it that way in summer if I feel the need. It's just a little irritating for all day carry. My little stainless ultralite M85 is SO much lighter and easier and fits a pocket, but it ain't .357. :D Everyone strikes their own compromises when it comes to CCW. This gun looks like it'd be excellent riding in an OWB belt slide. :D

The 617 on their website is called a compact frame

I believe it to be a little smaller than the Taurus medium frame guns such as their model 65 or 66. The 617 weighs 28.5 ounces in a 2" barrel but with a medium frame would probably be right at 32 ounces.

Very cool! That looks like a beefy little brute. When you CC it let us know what method and if the fatter cylinder creates any challenges in carry.

I have 617 Stainless with concealed hammer (617ss ch). Never had any trouble with it. I mostly shoot 38 spl. Youu can feel quit a difference when shooting 357.

M66s are 7 shot now days. My two are the older 6 shooters and I've been CCing my 3" in a Hume JIT Slide lately. It IWBs well, too, I just find the OWB a lot more comfy and when I take the gun out of it at home, it's like it isn't there, yet ready to go out the door with the gun when I'm ready. I've done a full day with it and it's a lot more bearable than the IWB after a few hours. I'm thinkin' summer I'll be back to IWB if I wanna carry it, but I'm happy with it under a long vest in the OWB. I'm not sure I'd want an even FATTER cylinder in an IWB, but then, I'm a might tubby. LOL
