I was fondling my Taurus model 62 pump .22 tonight, and found that if the trigger is held back as the pump is cycled, the hammer falls just as lock-up occurs and just as on the originals I have shot. I thought this was taken out on the Taurus new version. What's the real scoop? Thanks.

Are you sure it is a taurus and not a rossi?

Early Rossi rifles could be pump fired but they put a disconnector in place several years before Rossi and Taurus integrated with one another.

Maybe Taurus brought the original design back or there may be a fire pin lock now incorperated into the gun that prevents it from actually firing if the shooter attempts to pump fire the weapon and you will have to recock to actually fire the shot.

Did you attempt your experiment with live ammunition or were you playing with an unloaded gun?

I can't give a definitive answer because we don't repair Taurus guns, one breaks we box it up and send it back, the Warranty Service is excellent.

I have two Rossi M62 clones (replicas?). both will drop the hammer when the trigger is held back while cycling. Don't know if Taurus added a disconnector along with the lock and manual safety. Never had any reason to check, as i'm happy with the ones I have and I haven't considered adding another.

The Winchester M-97 shottie will do the same thing, as I found out (to my chagrin) the first time I was allowed to use my grandfather's TD 12 ga. hunting quail when I was twelve.
