hello everyone,
It has been a while since I've been in, but I have a question. Firstly, does anyone have any opinions on the Taurus pt 145? Secondly, how well do 230 gr Hydra-shoks do out of the guns 3.25 inch bbl? Does anyone know of a round that would do well out of the short bbl lenght?
Thank you.

I give it two thumbs-up!!

I'll speak to your first question...

I've had a PT145 for about 3 years and absolutely love it. My wife has one too, so I can theoretically provide you input on multiple levels. I have shot WWB, Remington JHP, and reloads through it...without any jambs or problems. Actually, I witnessed it jamb on a buddy of mine, whom I let shoot it when it was new. As I suspected, he was limp wristing it, which did not allow for full motion of the slide, thus impacting the feeding of the next round. The result was an FTF.

If I recall, the handgun holds 10 rounds, and does so in a small compact frame. I have read that over time the frame of the Millenium had cracking issues. But, of course the Taurus lifetime warranty covers that. Just a significant inconvenience to ship it and then wait for it to return. However, supposedly, the Millenium Pro does not have the same frame crack problem. So, I purchased the Pro version.

Incidentally, I have found the gun to be very accurate out of the box. I purchased ours new for $269+tax, in Apr 2005.

I have rather large paws, so I fitted an aftermarket rubber slip-on groove-fingered sleeve on the grip, which adds a little to the diameter of the grip and creates a more 'positive' grip, in my opinion.

Recoil on the gun is very managable. Hell, if my wife can shoot it, and loves it; then there's really no reason any adult couldn't, unless there is a physical condition prohibiting it.

Overall, it's a solidly built gun, lightweight, great magazine capacity, attractive (IMHO), and has stood up to the reliability test of many, many rounds. I give it two thumbs-up!!

The one I had was a complete POS. Got it for a little under $300 from Buds and it was terrible. FTE 1/2 the time and the other major issue was that the magazines would pop out while shooting. Checked to make sure I was not thumbing the release and was not. With the prospect of dealing w/ Taurus CS looming, I handed it to the guy next to me at the range and said "here... it's yours".

I have one in stainless and love it. Compact, reliable and accurate. I have never actually had a problem with a Taurus. Good reasonably priced guns in my opinion.

I am not a Taurus fan. Bought a PT145 Mil Pro on a whim as it was under $300 at the time and filled the compact .45 nitch for me. Love it. Reliable, accurate for its size. Relatively hicap and very compact. I carry in a Don Hume OWB belt holster.

Great pistol. I have aways wanted a large capacity compact 45 that would fit well in my hands (short fingers). The PT145 fits great and functions perfectly with both FMJ and HP ammo. Definitly one of the best purchases I have made.

My PT-145 has been flawless through over 1000 rounds. Eats anything I throw in it. It's a great CC firearm, a very concealable 10+1 45acp. My only wish: SigLite Night Sights on it would be great.

My second generation DAO PT145 is one awesome weapon. This is now my night stand, home defense weapon of choice.

The perfect round for it is: 160 grain Corbon DPX

It is a non-plus P round that expands reliably out of the short barrel and the all copper bullet gives excellent penetration.

My pistold does not like cheap white box Winchester for practice...primers are too hard. Other than that...this was a perfect .45 ACP. Small, accurate, reliable and light weight.

Homework time if if research is being done on the PT145. This is from the owners and users from another forum, but just as valid as from here.

More owners and users from the "other place".

Here's the scoop.
