Can I shoot lead through my pt111(non pro)?It has a polygonal barrel like a glock,so it got me thinking.
Thanks

i don't think you're supposed to shoot lead rounds out of any type of barrel that has polygonal rifling, regardless of the manufacturer, but i could be wrong.

The Taurus has standard rifling. H&K P7s and their brethren have polygonal rifling.

Reasons makers don't use normally it is because of expense and difficulty to do the rifling right.

Had a regular PT111 and have the PT111 Mil/pro. Been through the owner's manual and talked to Customer Service in the past. Nothing on poly. rifling. Nor is there anything about not shooting lead through the gun, anywhere.

As for the lead I have shot lead out of the pistol. Local range had some lead loads. These functioned flawlessly, but the clean up job wasn't worth all the trouble later. Fired only 20 rounds and the scrubbing, cleaning, let it soak with solvents, and all wasn't worth it.

My PT 140 Millennium Pro is several years old so it is possible something changed, but as far as I know the M. Pros (and all Taurus handguns) use regular rifling, not polygonal rifling. Lead is fine, just be sure to regularly clean your gun if you use lead as it is foul up your gun and rifling a lot faster than bullets with a copper jacket.

ok,I stand corrected..not sure why I thought it had the polygonal.....thanks.I just joined an indoor range that requires lead ammo, and I was going to buy a replacement barrel for my g17..I'll shoot the pt instead.

One thing that will help clean out some of the lead bullet residue is to run some copper jacketed ammo through the gun at the end of your range session. The jacketed bullets will actually take some of the lead out with them as they travel down the barrel. Makes cleaning a little more easier.
