The duel of the pistols
Why the Brazilian government is changing the Taurus weapons
for the Glock Austrians

Hugo Studart

The case already is being called for the rare authorities of Brasilia of "the duel of the pistols". It involves the Taurus, Brazilian industry that one conquered terço of the market of light weapons of the United States, and the Glock, of Austria, plant of pistols that more grows in the world thanks to an aggressive politics of merchandising. Launched in 1982, the Glock soon became an icon of also being able between terrorists and outlaws - but the favourite weapon of the policemen who fight them. This because it is manufactured in polymer, a special plastic that, conducts the myth, it would allow to cross ray X of the airports and the metal detector of the banks. In the fiction, the agent James Bond must empunhar a Glock in its next film. The Austrian Arnold Schwarzenegger, in the climax of End of the Days, declaims: "I only trust God and my Glock". Tommy Lee Jones, in the Fugitive, goes more far in the duel for the market and compels its partner to play a Taurus in the garbage. It is what it decided to make the Cabinet of Institucional Security of the Palace of Plateaus, the GSI, commanding for general Armando Félix. The agents of security of president Lula had started to change the national Taurus, model 92, for the Austrian Glock, model 19. The first shipment, with 88 pistols, already arrived. More 80 weapons must arrive in the next days, for delirium of the private agents. The next one launches of the duel involves currency symbols. At this moment, the Glock tries to get authorization of the Army to manufacture pistols in Brazil. The Taurus, in turn, is prepared to abandon of time the Country and to install all its line of production in the branch office of Miami, in the United States.
The plan of the Glock is to use Brazil as base of production and exportation for Latin America, Africa and part of Asia, especially China. This because the legislation of the Européia Union, of which Austria is part, does not allow to vender armaments for countries in conflict. These markets would be left for the future Brazilian branch office. Moreover, it has the domestic market, where the Glock can vender for the Armed Forces (250 a thousand men), military policies in the States (900 a thousand men) and for the private guards of security (more than 1 million, and growing). "It is everything ready, we can initiate the process of production in September", announces Luis Antonio Horta, director-generality of the Glock Americas, installed in Uruguay, and president of the Glock of Brazil. It waits only one authorization of the Army. The project is ambitious. Already 2 million had been invested to USS. This gives to import the parts of the matrix and to mount the pistols in a shed in the immediacy of Campinas. 10 a thousand pistols in the first year would be manufactured, offered to the average price of USS 600 each. Only Latin America purchase more than 25 a thousand Glock per year. In a period of seven years, Horta says, the production of 250 a thousand pistols with index of 95% nationalization must put into motion USS 350 million. "the industry in Brazil will be more modern of the one than of the matrix in Austria", Horta promises.

When knowing of the Austrian plans, the president of the Taurus, Carlos Murgel, was disconcerted. It was looked recently by the owner of a great national warlike industry. The industrial wanted to co-opt it to enter in the lobby against the campaign of disarmament of the government. Murgel was a well of hurts. It complained of the decision of the security of Squid to change Taurus for Glock. "It is what it lacked stops in destruirem them in house", said. Murgel remembered that more than 90% of the businesses of the Taurus are in the United States - the company more than vendeu 100 a thousand weapons for back in 2004 and 7 a thousand in Brazil because of the campaign of the disarmament. She disclosed, finally, that she decides to close the plant in the Country and if to move of time for Miami. The colleague entrepreneur tried convinces to resist it. "I want more is that Brazil if injures", would have said a exaltado Murgel. "It finished". Looked for for MONEY, Murgel informed that it does not go to pronounce itself. "I never thought that the Glock so was respected by the competitors", ironiza Horta, that is Brazilian. "We waited to compete for the market, never I imagined that the Taurus was to run away before the duel starting". A military authority says that the duel is not decided. Still the pressures of the national warlike industry are strong so that the Army vetoes the entrance of the Austrians.

So Glock wants to set up a factory outside Austria because they are a member of the EU and the EU will not allow them to export their pistols to "COUNTRIES IN CONFLICT"

This is the one world Ninny state showing its true colors. No selling guns to countries that need them or which are at war.

So imagine the bliss ninnies destroy the US industry we would then be told to pound sand by our European suppliers when we need the firearms most like in a war. :cuss:

Just all part of the Soros world plan. :fire:

I think it may have more to do with the referendum on upcoming Brazilian ballot that asks the people if they think the arms and ammunition industry should be completely shut down in Brazil.
Most of the common folk are fed up with the violent activity that plagues Brazil and are convinced that closing the gun production houses is going to solve all the countries problems.

I think the government is hedging their bets and planning for a future without domestic firearm production capabilities.,,,

More 80 weapons must arrive in the next days, for delirium of the private agents.
And I thought I was a gun nut!
The colleague entrepreneur tried convinces to resist it. "I want more is that Brazil if injures", would have said a exaltado Murgel. "It finished"
That's exactly what I would have said, under the circumstances, I think... :D
It complained of the decision of the security of Squid to change Taurus for Glock. "It is what it lacked stops in destruirem them in house", said.
Can somebody update me on what's going on with Squid security in Brazil?

Anyone know what gun they "throw away" in "US Marshalls"? I thought the words where something like "get rid of that nickel-plated sissy pistol and get yourself a glock." I have a Taurus pt92 in 9mm and a glock 22 in .40s&w and I think both are fine pistols. The glock seems more rugged but I shoot better with the Taurus.

Why would Taurus be discussed in a thread about giants?

More to the point, why wouldn't they? Have you looked at their catalog man? They make a wider variety of guns than just about any other manufacturer, and they are among the leaders in using new (though not always better, obviously) materials and manufacturing techniques. You don't care for thier pistols, thats fine, but the fact is that Glock makes one gun in several calibers and sizes. Doesn't mean Glocks are bad, but one basic design does not a "Giant" make.

Timbo: It was a joke. For many years, Taurus was a third-echelon manufacturer. They've improved a great deal over the past few years. I still wouldn't own one, but there are a lot of folks who own them and like them.

So... all Taurus base are belong to Glock?
