WOW. I have had a Ruger 10/22 with a 3x-9x scope installed on it for about 10 years. I had gotten as good as anyone could be with that set-up and was content. But, at the urging of a good friend of mine, I decided to try good iron sights instead (I think the Ruger iron sights stink... never good with them, hence the scope).

He recommended that I try "Tech Sights." While I'm not 100% sure what to call them, they are adjustable aperture sights with the "peep" style in the rear (first and last time I'll use "peep" and "rear" in the same sentence, btw). Let me just say that they are fantastic and I recommend them to anyone! My groupings, after just a half hour at the range, were better than they had been with the scope. I was doing 0.5" to 0.75" groups at 25 yards and 3-4 inch groups at 100 yards.

Tech Sights are also made for the SKS (and several others) that I'm going to HAVE to get soon. I'm OK with the iron sights on the SKS, but am now convinced that my shooting will greatly improve with the addition of the Tech Sights.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you all know about them, for those who are unfamiliar. I'm pretty sure anyone involved with the Appleseed stuff already knows about them, but figured I put it out there for anyone who doesn't know about them.

I have them on my 10/22 and sks and love them. I don't think I could go back to regular irons on a long gun.

Tech Sights on Savage Mark II

I recently bought a Savage Mark II for my daughter - Left handed bolt. She was having trouble with the factory blade sight, which is OK, but nothing to write home about. I fitted the rifle with Tech Sights - she LOVES the new setup. I sighted it in for her (she lives jn NJ and belongs to the gun club up here in Northern NY). I also enjoyed shooting the gun while setting it up. NICE sights!

I am not sold on the SKS version. It replaces the cross bolt locking pin in the reciever cover, so every time you have to clean it they it will have to be removed. Has anyone tried this does it keep a good zero?

mine goes back right where I left it - the designers were aware of the requirement to take off the unit and provided a good solution. Everything mounts on and indexes to the actual receiver, not the cover, including four setscrews that make it a rigid mount (and no, they don't vibrate loose or walk, they're pre-loctited heavily)

Look at the exploded diagram and read the instructions, it isn't complicated and it works.

Tech sights are great. I added a set to my 10/22 and they worked great art the appleseed event Ooo went to.

Does anyone know of a similar product for something like a Marlin 1894?

Also, what other sight companies are out there that serve similar functions?

Classic, timeless look about them...quality is top notch...

It's a peep sight, though and not an adjustable aperture. They do offer different screw-in apertures.

I have Tech Sights on four rifles

and they are great...have them on a Marlin 60, Two Marlin 795s, and a Marlin 99M1. They are great sights and for the OP I suggest you can refer to them generically as aperture sights...Of course Tech Sights is the brand name.
