Can anyone tell me about the .41 . Ive really been wanting a combo,i know Ruger made a sixgun in .41,and i love that old model 95 rem. derringer,so is the .41 a good round, and would the same .41 work in both the derringer and the revolver, and hopefully a rifle too? Thanks.

The old Remington Derringers were in .41 Rimfire, a completely different round from .41 Magnum.

Firing .41 Magnum, even in a relatively tame loading like the Silvertip, out of a Reminton-pattern derringer would be unpleasant, to say the least.

Ruger, S&W and Taurus all make revolvers chambered for the fine .41 Magnum cartridge.

By .41 I guess you mean the .41Remington Magnum. It is a fantastic cartridge. It can be had in single and double action revolvers, single shots, lever actions, and o/u derringers.

Right now, the easiest lever action in .41Magnum to get ahold of is the Marlin 1894FG. I believe that American Derringer will still take a special order for the .41Magnum. That's where I got mine. As Tamara says, the derringer in .41Magnum is not for the faint of heart.

At present, a good Ruger Blackhawk in .41Magnum would probably be the least costly to acquire at present. I've picked up a couple good used ones for under $250 at gunshows, pawnshops, and consigned guns at local gunshops. Good luck in your search.:D

thanks

Thanks guys.Great info.I didnt know there was a rimfire and a magnum,now i do.I appreciate it.

I had a .41 Ruger Redhawk. Real nice gun, but with caliber consolidation, I sold it.

I miss it.

It's a great round that not everyone has, but can get close to .44 and .45 colt levels - well, reasonable hunting levels anyway.

Hmmm. I really miss that gun...

Also...
.41 Short Colt
.41 Long Colt

Both rather wimpy...bout on a par with .38/200 for punch.
Sub-diameter cases with heeled bullet.

And long considered obselete.

Plus
.41 action express, autoloader round with rebated rim so as to work with existing 9mm bolt faces. Definately a nich gun.

If you're talking about the 41 Mag. then I'll say it's my favorite wheel-gun for hunting. Mines a Smith 57 6" barrel. It will do just about what 44 Mag. up to 220 gr. bullets but with less recoil.

I shoot 357 mag., 41 Mag., 44 Mag. , 444 Marlin, 45 Colt, 454 Casull and I'm getting a 480 Ruger from handguns and the 41 is the best whitetail round going.

Have a good day

Depends on how you want to shoot a .41, revolver or rifle?

Sisco:
What kind of sights do you have on the Marlin?
I'm thinking about putting peep sights on mine but haven't decided which ones.

The sights are Williams peep sights, put a Williams fire sight on the front. My old eyes were having a hard time with the the factory buckhorn.

A .41 magnum was the first revolver I shot. The pistol was what my uncle carried when he was with DPS in Texas. It would be an understatement to say it impressed me then (12 years old). I have shot the .41 mag round a few times since then, and I have to say it is a :D fun round.

The .41 Magnum

In praise of the .41 Magnum...IMHO probably the best of the original magnum revolver calibers. Now, if Smith & Wesson would just produce it in
an L-frame, 5-shot revolver with a 3-inch barrel and a round butt...with
FIXED SIGHTS, please...The very thought fairly makes my head spin.

Oh yeah...Put the firing pin back on the hammer where it belongs!
