If you don't have a quality FAL, it's a MUST HAVE rifle for any .308 semi-auto enthusiast. WOW... I bought a DSA FAL and shot one for the first time today and I am unbelievably impressed by the quality, ergonomics, reliability, ease of use, sights, trigger... I could go on and on... but this and the M1A are just neck and neck on outstanding .308 rifles...

They are a hell of a lot of fun. My FAL is my 1st choice for a happy range day.... that may have changed today buttt... I don't think so.

I want one really, really badly. Unfortunately, it won't be in the budget for quite sometime.

+1 on that, I shot my L1A1 today and secured a DSA 18in barreled rifle for a sweet price from a friend of mine that works weekends at the range. I'm not even gonna tell you what kind of price I got it for......................

I have had one on my list for a while too, but I just can't justify spending that much for a rifle. Especially when I consider that I can pick up a slightly used Sig and even throw in a suppressor and tax and STILL come in a good bit under the price of one of those things...

Incredibly, the DSA that I have lusted over for some time costs more than my motorcycle... (which is actually for sale on the off chance that any of you are looking for a SV 650)

Still, they're very nice rifles!

The only FAL I've shot was a POS parts kit gun that shot like crap before the rear sight fell off after less than a mag was emptied (not that losing the sight hurt its performance much).

So my experience hasn't been the best with these rifles ... I keep hearing how wonderful they are but haven't picked one up that didn't feel like junk. I think more than most rifles you REALLY need to know these guns inside and out before you buy one (or just drop top dollar for a DSA).

I was a skeptic. My first .308 was the PTR91. I consider that a POS now that I've gotten the FAL!!! The FAL is just like, "WOW."

Here's my DSA SA58 I picked it up 7 or so years ago at a price I could not pass up. They are a joy to shoot, that's for sure!

IMHO, if the Army had purchased FALs as opposed to the M14, we would never have had the M16.

PbJAG, get all the magazines you can afford. Suspect they will only go up in price.

"...this and the M1A are..." Neither are real examples of the rifles they copy. The FAL beat the M14 in every test except accuracy.
"...would never have had the M16..." The only way that would have happened is if Kennedy hadn't hired McNamara. Both selections were politically inspired. Both caused other NATO countries to have both cartridges jammed down their throats too. Neither cartridge was ideally suited to European battle fields either.

The FALs on full auto were as uncontrollable as the M14s were. If NATO had adopted the 280 caliber as initally proposed, the FAL could have been fired full auto and been controlled by the average soldier. The M16 was quite a bit lighter in weight though.

Built my L1A1 about 9 years ago and I love shooting it. I have named her "Shiela", since it is an Aussie kit.

Barrel was cut during the Slime Bill. Got a spare somewhere.

Swapped a Carbine AR15 for the L1A1 w/bayo. Used to have a scope on my L1A1.

The FAL has a slight edge for better ergonomics, and StG-58s from the integral bipod are pretty good BAR substitutes -- which is still a crappy base of fire weapon, but can hit steel chest plates at combat ranges with 3-5 round bursts all day long.

I love my Imbel. Only problem I had was getting magazines that had weak springs...caused FTF's.

My true wish would be an Izzy kit built on an Imbel reciever. Those are seriously sexy.

I had two FALs built in the 90s from parts kits on Imbel recievers. Both were accurate and dependable. I got caught up in trying for exteme accuracy with scope mounts and such and ended up selling both. After reading parts of Bostons Gun Bible I've got the bug again. I wanted an 18in but DSA was back ordered on that barrel so my 21in should be here in the next few weeks. I'll have it shortened by my smith and look forward to lots of fun.

Take a look at the 2011 DSA video. You may reconsider that the FAL is uncontrollable on full auto.

One of my homebuilt junk FALs It's A frankenfal in Izzy clothing. Works exactly as it should. You might knock off the sights (With A hammer):D

I built mine back in the good old days when you could still get G1 kits in like new condition. It's on a FAC receiver with original Belgian walnut furniture.

Well with all these pictures pop'n up I think I'll add my metric L1A1 to the mix. Argintine receiver all British parts for the start. She always shoots better than I expect, now if I could just get this scope figured out lol

Great. Thanks a lot, guys. Now I've got to buy (another) one. The mistake I made on my first was that I didn't know about the Drunk Monkey division of Century Arms. (What, an 8" group at 100 yds not good enought for you??)
I know better now, and will make a wiser choice this time.
