I don't know if any of you read MadOgre.com but he is putting together a shooting competition for next summer and calling it The Grand Challenge. One mile trail shoot with targets at unknown distances anywhere from 0-1000 yards. Everyone wanting to compete is welcome.

The ability to use as many weapons as you wish sets the Grand Challenge apart and makes it pretty cool IMO. I'm still planning on using just one rifle for the whole thing, but that may change as I begin practicing. I know other guys are planning on pistol for short range and rifle for long, others are carbine for short and rifle for long.

I think it would be way fun to intersperse short-range work at various stages of the course too, but George is still working up the CoF.

I believe Trooper Class (as champion by Russell Phagen) allows whatever guns you want to carry. The ITRC and PRTC both allowed some weapon choice for some engagements as well. I don't remember if the Muscle-Man match did, but it was a similar format to the Cooper rifle walk-- I believe it involved a team with pistols, a shotgun, and a rifle. The Trooper Challenge (LMS Defense) was supposed to have weapon choice but I am not sure what actually happened with that match.

Cool, maybe I can find some online discussions on weapon choice for this thing. I don't want to have to remake the wheel.

Ken Salazar's latest land grab in Utah has shut off access to the location that the grand challenge was going to be held at.
A new location will have to be found.

Gun DOctor,
Do you have any updates ? Sorry, I do not use facebook, too old for this.

Yeah, I do. Thanks to Ken Salazar....the chosen location for the Grand Challenge is now closed to any members of the public. He shut down a lot of what used to be public/BLM land here in Utah. We're looking for a new location to host the challenge at. We'll re-announce it when we secure a location.

Personally I would like to just come out and watch and learn. If the match location has been closed off of BLM land there must be a State or Govermnment access road that cannot be blocked off?

I wish. All of those roads have been closed down. The government isn't letting anyone into large portions of the eastern side of the state. All of it oil/natural gas lands. Imagine that.
