The K Frame

Anyone try the Crimson trace lasergrips on a K yet?

I've got a 10-6 and a 19-4 nickel plate, both 4" heavy barrels, and both as smooth shooting as a hot knife through butter.

Anyone tried the lasergrips on them yet? I'm thinking of getting a set.

Still on the road

Kalashnikat, I've not tried the CT grips yet. I saw over in the 642 Club thread that CT has a new "boot grip" style product for the J frame. If they offer this smaller grip for the K I'd be pretty interested, but I'm still on the road so I've not checked the CT website yet.

Hopefully someone here will have some good info for you. Welcome to the K frame club and let us know if you try the CTs.

Hands down my favorite pistol that I've ever shot or owned is my 19-3 4" - very smooth, very accurate, and fits my hands like a pistol should.

I own a Model 14 (5 screw)
Model 15 ( My wife took it and won't give it back)
Model 17
Model 19 2 1/2" P&R

I really like the K's...have been shooting one or another for about 35 years.
(Also have a J and an L...and a Smith auto)

 Dang! gone a few days and the whole site is filled up with pics of our favorite objets' de art. Seems to me the K frame is the utility infielder of handguns. The linebacker who can play the pass or the run equally well. I guess the thing we all like about them is they are versatile, pleasant to shoot and no trouble to carry. No matter the caliber or configuration, if you do your part the K frame won't let you down. "Nuff said.

I thought I joined weeks ago, guess not. My Model 15-3 can keep em under 2" all day, almost ain't fair. My 2" RB Model 10-7 is the house gun of choice, wife likes it, I like it. All the stag grips I am seeing are gonna force me to spend money. Very nice examples everyone, this thread is great. Bill

My 15-4 has been slicked up with an action job, polished and rounded trigger, and chamfered cylinder. It's as accurate as my Glock 17.:)

I love the K-frames, they're a work of beauty. Very rare to see that kind of workmanship in today's world.

Today's K-frames are...acceptable. Sure they're more durable and built with better quality steels, but they just don't have the same soul.

Okay, I'll repost pics of my two K Frames. I just added Ahrends walnut stocks to both of them.

S&W Model 14-4, 1980, Ahrends Walnut, stained with Watco oil-based dark walnut (3 parts) and Olympic oil-based Merlot (1 part), finished with 3 coats of Olympic oil-based satin polyurethane:

Wow, the K Frame Club, a club I'm actually proud to join. :D

I picked up a police turn in Smith 64-5 a few months ago and, I know less than nothing about revolvers. I've owned a few Rugers, and a snubbie Smith here and there, all in .357, but never looked at them as anything other than, "back-up" guns for a dedicated semi-auto guy.

I finally got to the range today and I learned three things.

1. I like S&W revolvers a lot.
1. I like four inch .38s. This thing is an absolute joy to shoot.
2. I really need to practice DA trigger control to hit at point of aim.

I was shooting a little low but it was simply a matter of getting to know the fixed sights.

The finish has seen better days, and I replaced the WELL worn grip with a Hogue. All in all, this could become an addiction.

I am drooling. I am hoping to say I am a member of the "K" club soon. I have too many gun currently; (The Department of Defense - "My Wife's" opinion). So I've decided to trade out a Ruger Blackhawk 45LC 7 1/2 mint for a 357 revolver. I've narrowed it down to a S&W model 13,19,65,or 66. Possibly some others. Of course, there's the Ruger crowd pushing the GP100, but I prefer to stay with the S&W "K" series for 357. Now, if i can just find one, and someway to swap what I have. Thanks for all the great pics and making me drool. Later... Mike....

The K Frames have balanced weight, size, ergonomics and dynamic handling qualities in a way no other revolvers did before or have done since and they remain THE BEST fighting revolvers ever made. Period. - Lawboy

I agree completely!

Count me in the club, 6" M-19 here!

I would dearly love to aquire a 2.5" someday!

I wanted a Model 19 from when I first started reading about Bill Jordan when I was a kid.

However, I must admit to some ignorance concerning the secondary numbers (the ones after the slash) where can I gain enlightenment?:D

I'm not sure if this list is accurate, but I have found the revision history of the model 19.

Engineering changes were designated with a "dash-" number after the model number. The engineering changes are as follows:

19 - 1957: Stamping of model number.

19-1 - 1959: Change extractor rod, right to left-hand thread.

19-2 - 1961: Cylinder stop changed, delete triggerguard screw.

1963: Introduce 6" barrel.

1963: 50 manufactured with 2.5" barrel, serial range K544672-K544721.

1966: Introduce 2.5" barrel as standard.

19-3 - 1967: Relocation of rear sight leaf screw.

1968: Delete diamond-insert grip.

19-4 - 1977: Change gas ring from yoke to cylinder. (not really an "improvement". It did make it slightly easier to clean if you had heavy leading, but basically was a cost-cutting measure.)

19-5 - 1982: Eliminate cylinder counterbore.

It's awesome to see the K Frame thread revived after a couple months lying dormant. Welcome to all our newest K Fans, and again thank you folks for the eye candy.

Personally, I've added another K Frame to the collection here. I recently traded a 3" .38 only SP-101 and a little cash for a 3" 65-2. I'll get a pic posted soon.
