My S&W pre 17 I found it in the floorboards while setting up an estate sale with a friend of my dad's when I was 18.

Every day carry.

It is useable everywhere I may have a gun. It can be a carry gun, a car gun, a home defense gun, a range gun, etc.

For me it would be my Glock 26

This is a trick question.

I'd be torn between my go-to gun (rifle) and a carry gun.

Tomorrow I might feel different, but if I could just have one it would be a gun I don't currently carry or use for HD: CZ 75B SA in 9mm. I could be using it in both roles; I just have other guns that suit the specific roles better for me.

If not that then my 7-shot BPS.

Hypothetically I'd never give up my Ruger Bearcat. In reality, I'll never just have one gun.

For me, it would be my hunting rifle. It's what I most often take to the rannge to social plink. I take it out to hunt every year multiple times. I've trained enough where I can defend myself with it if need be. Of my hunting rifles. The second to last would be the 30-06. The last would be my lever action 30-30. Reason for lever action is I simply like it the best. Sorry you are in this bind.

... Sorry you are in this bind.
:)
Not in a bind - it is a hypothetical situation because my original post scenario (SHTF) was inappropriate for the high standards of The High Road.

Got some very interesting answers from you folks. I actually started this thread because of different gun forum where I got jealous of a poster who had plenty of guns and plenty of money to buy more guns - it got me to thinking how important owning guns was to some folks. Y'all didn't let me down - there's some who can take em or leave em and theres other who would sell their wife first - amazing!!!

I wouldn't sell my wife!! Maybe rent her out... NOT!! :D I no longer have a wife anyway and good riddence to that one. Hmm... I guess I could have sold THAT one without remorse.

that would have to be my custom savage MK2 .22 target gun....

practical as an EDC/ SHTF/ save my bacon on day gun.......no

but it is a gun youll literally have to dig 6' to pry from my hands......

I voted home defense handgun, but now thought about the question a bit more. I'd have to go with my M4. It excells in home defense, hunting, and protection in a Katrina like event. Shotguns are for these purposes too, but I like the accuracy and quick follow up shots of the M4.

My wife gave me a FA 454 for my 50th birthday. We ain't rich, so that was a big deal. Means more to me than anthing else in the safe.
