I knew there is a Federal Excise tax on all firearms, ammo(including handguns) and Archery Equipment to support Federal and State Conservation efforts, but didn't know the name of the Act or how much the tax is. I thought it was ~3% or something. Here:

Funding provided by this Act manage to save many species of game animals and birds from Extinction. So a quick reminder to any gun banner who loves Animals and Birds where the money comes from...

Those who hate guns but love animals won’t care where the money comes from. Just like (many) people don’t care where their right to protest comes from.

It’s no secret in the firearms community that hunters actually preserve wildlife, and shooters promote gun safety through tax revenue for programs and ranges. It’s been that way since before most of us were born. And yet it’s still a topic of heated debate for tree huggers and anti-2A supporters. I don’t think it’s ignorance at this point.

I'm glad that some of money I spend on my hobbies goes to helping wildlife. Being able to hunt wild turkeys in Wisconsin after they were extinct. Pittman-Robertson act and license fees made it possible.

I'm always happy to explain to the anti hunting group that it's hunters that keep wildlife free and populations growing.

Pennsylvania has 1.5 million acres of land open to the public, managed for wildlife, and the land was either donated or purchased with hunting license revenue. Hunters and shooters provide such significant benefits to wildlife, game animals and others like raptors and bats, that, honestly those who support wildlife in opposition to hunting do so out of ignorance.

Don't forget the latest bird watching platforms installed by the DNR in your favorite marsh, payed for and placed by hunters excise taxes, license etc.

So the birders :cool:with no sweat or $ equity can enjoy.

IMHO they should bear some of the costs, some type of birders stamp or other. Or excise tax on their $5000+ newest latest camera lens maybe?

But what do I know.

Birding doesn't usually physically take anything from the great outdoors, but hunting does. I reckon that's where the fees and such come into play. Mental activity is hard to tax-- and please don't give 'em any ideas. :)

The PR funds also support the state conservation agencies and help to pay salaries. The proposed 30% tax on ammo and firearms is a direct affront to sportsmen who have voluntarily taxed themselves to support wild life. If this tax were to be passed, then sportsmen should "voluntarily" have the PR tax removed.

Since I’m considered to be a “manufacturer” in a small way (commercial fly tyer and tackle crafter) I’ve been paying excise quarterly for years and don’t mind at all since the monies go to improving fisheries (just like other excise taxes support wildlife and habitat...).

What most aren’t aware of is that all of us pay since the taxes are built into most of the sporting goods we buy ... arrows, fishing rods - all have those taxes built in before they ever are offered for sale at your local stores...

In a similar vein, that's my gripe about bicyclists. They want cars banned from city streets, but they forget who paid for those roads with gas taxes and registration fees.

I'd love to see some licensing fees for bicycles like they have in other countries. Maybe then I wouldn't feel so bad when a group of them take over a road and refuse to let cars go by. No, I probably still would. lol

Try living in an area heavily populated with Amish.

Hey I'm a bicyclist and I do not want cars banned from the streets. Which group of bicyclists are you referring to?

Critical Mass. They stage rides in NYC and hundreds, sometimes thousands, show up and block streets and traffic.

But even groups of 10 or more can take over a road and impede traffic. Got to the point where small towns north of the city were putting up signs making it illegal to ride more than 2 abreast.

I keep to the side of the road or on bike trails if they are available.
