I love this thread. Something new to ponder, admire and drool over with each posting. I'm starting to feel piggy, having four specimens. All garden variety 7.5 inch adjustable sight models (three stainless steel, and one blue), but I just can't resist the grand fellas. Don

Though it does me no good, I'm slightly irritated by the market. I bought both of mine after 2008 in the $500 range. One of them is unfired. I see prices all over the place on these, and I am cautious to buy anything that I have not seen, unless I have a good reason to trust the seller.

My first stainless ROA is a great shooter, but the seller advertised it as being in "almost new" condition. When I got the gun, I noticed some light pitting where the frame is screwed to the grip assembly. These small spots did not show up on the pictures. Upon taking the whole thing apart for a deep cleaning, I noticed abundant rust on several surfaces on the inside of the frame. I could probably sell the gun for what I paid for it, but not without disclosing the history, along with the fact that I cleaned it up good. All that said, it's kind of nice to have a gun that I don't have to worry about wear and tear from normal use. I endorse the gun as fully functional and in great condition, but it's not "almost new." To me, this means fired no more than two or three cylinders during one session, completely and deeply cleaned, and then sold without any scratches (other than tool marks) that can be seen without mild magnification. Maybe my standard is just too high.

I still "need" to find one more ROA, but it's getting harder by the month... Definitely more difficult than it was even two or three years ago. I am still hopeful there are oodles of them out there that are in fantastic condition... guns whose owners would sell them for a bargain because BP is not for them. How "irritated" can I really be? Nobody complains about a market when it's to their advantage. I'll be content, and keep on the lookout.

Who has actual experience with the "Improved cylinder" not the conversion cyl but the cap and ball cylinder, is there a documented improvement in velocity and or accuracy? Is it a worthwhile investment or does the cost not reflect in the outcome?

It sounds like you're asking about the Classicballistx ROA cylinder.
I'm not sure if they're still available.
The cylinders weren't made in very large numbers or for a long enough period of time for very many evaluation reports to be posted about them.

myke the ol army was antiqued from the beginning in the heart and mind of bill ruger,all bill set out to do is build an 1858 new army look alike that had all the improvements he could think of and still be of antique status........god bless bill ruger he made a fun gun

I like them a lot. For whatever reason they make me think Whitney rather than Remington when I see them. In fact at the risk of being chased from here with pine burrs I will say that for me those are the nicest looking Rugers I have seen yet.

I am not offended if someone dislikes how these look. Frankly, I am surprised and gratified that there have been so many positive comments. Compared to the well composed photos of those pristine firearms that started this thread, my antiqued ones might be considered tacky. But it's so much fun to play around with them!!

IIRC, the ROA design was based largely on the Rodgers & Spencer.

Though I realize I'll probably be crucified for saying this, I'm not a fan of browned guns.
Not even on old flintlocks.
I prefer a highly polished and blued finish. Colt Royal Blue and the old prewar Smith & Wesson polished blue.
I also like a shiny, high polished hot black.

I don't have an opinion about your antiqued ROAs. Since I don't like brown, my opinion would be biased, anyway, and irrelevant.
They are your guns, and I say "enjoy them your way".

Please tell us your take on the r o a and what bill ruger set out to do when he crafted the r o a ,in his own words he stated that he wanted a pistol that had all the attributes of the Remington beals /1858, his first revolver he owned as a boy,and none of the problems such as the loading lever drop upon firing,the loading lever cam weakness,spring weakness,and he made it idiot proof for liability reasons,and we all know why ruger discontinued it cause bill wasn't there to keep it in production as he said he would,cause of all the guns he produced he said "Its the one I like" If bill was alive IM sure he would mandate the continued production of the R O A......R I P BILL RUGER.....................
