For countering the weight of heavy Pistols, a dozen or so Helium Baloons,
left over from any child's Birthday Party or Chucky-Cheeze Grand Opening...may be pressed into service.

The Baloons are gathered together on a few feet of light cord, and, a generous loop supports the barrel,
nicely retaining the Loading Lever, and, allowing an unrestriced sight picture while aiming.

Many antique & modern target rifles with heavy barrels have a simple removable threaded handle for support.
A similar handle could be designed for the Walker LRE.

NobleSniper,

Man, it's hard enough trying to get the right sized nipples and caps for use on a Walker or other BP handgun, of which the cylinder is on a horizontal plain, so I can only imagine the challenges of keeping caps on an inverted nipple.

Otay yer Scratness...

Sign me up !!! :neener: I wants my number ! :D I was at the Sporting Goods box store today to get a new rest for one of my bows and to also show the Mgr. of the archery department my bow I just finished making. Well... they had a Walker in the case for $360.00 and after I showed 'em a couple of cosmetic flaws... they knocked 10% off and... well... I need to warm up the camera this evening and post proof of ownership. I had no intensions of buying anything of the BP flavor today... but... well... sometimes good things happen when you least expect it. Do I get to lay claim to #76?

Here's cosmetic flaw #1... it appears the grip was chipped before it left the factory and was "fixed" with some brown epoxy.

And #2 is the markings on the cylinder. Is there something I need to do to correct the cause of the cylinder marks?

One of the main causes for the ring around the cylinder is the way the gun was treated. If you put the gun at half cock. Then Pull the hammer back while pulling the trigger to put it down you mark the cylinder as the bottom bolt is still up. the correct way to do it without maring the cylinder is this. Gun at half cock. Pull the hammer back all the way the Way the gun locks into battery. Then Hold the hammer and pull the trigger. Keep you finger on the trigger until you gently lower the hammer.

Ok...

so, it was mishandled while living in the case... and not in need of a repair. That's a good thing, and a bad thing. It's a shame someone didn't handle it correctly at the store. I would'nt've even thought of holding the trigger while finishing cocking it before the let down. I guess you can't idiot proof the world. Thanks for the info.

Goc.... Lol...

Yeah... I'm pretty pleased with it... all of 'em, I guess. If you're asking whether all of my BP's are ready to use... yes, they are. All, but two were purchased as new and haven't even gotten seasoned yet. Shame, ain't it? Choices are good !

walker question?

First of all I am new to the high road seems like a great site!

I recently purchased a traditions walker revolver it looked unfired but upon closer inspection it has problems with indexing; the chambers the hammer not always aligning with the cylinder cutout the timing is off some of the time.
I noticed some marking on the cylinder notches; and the bolt stop= (cylinder stop) seemed very rough and sort of peened down probably was a display piece and just fooled with one to many times.

I learned from your excellant posts that VTI has parts and will order a new bolt stop I dont think i can save the old one but i will try. my questions Are there after market parts of better quality maybe uberti that would fit with a little tweaking?? Other than that it seems fine and in very nice shape.

Any advice on fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated

VTI sells parts from different manufacturers; you can (and should) specify Uberti Walker parts.

However, if it's a brand new gun you should be able to correct the problems with a fine file or India stone.

#78 - Cooter's Horse Pistol

Well Finally,

About 50 guns later...

Added a Colt Walker to my Arsenal, moving me to the elite group of Black Powder Aficienados...

Planning to blow a little smoke at the range and get to 10 ring shots inside 50 yards...

How is the kick of this Mule using 50 Grains and a .454 Ball?

Accuracy, shot placement are key...

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x264/M_444/Black Powder/ColtWalker1.jpg

I need some Shoulder Leather for this Old Time CCW...

Can you help me out?

Ron

We have a member here that makes some nice leather. I know he (bigbadgun) has a shoulder rig patteren, I would check with him.

Kick with 50gr bp is not really a kick, more like a push, it's a heavy gun and does not jump around bad. It's less recoil than a SBH .44mag

The visual is impressive, a lot of smoke and noise but the recoil is a bit of a disappointment. Watching this go bang you would think it kicks like a mule but the reality is it is a soft, firm push. A young lady who is just about 5' and 95 lbs soaking wet had a great time shooting my WALKER but was not happy shooting a Glock 19 with light loads. It is probably the most enjoyable handgun there is to shoot.

i agree with fineredmist. Same time it reminds me of a 44. i had a freind that had a Dan Wesson 44mag. it had that 9 inch barrel as well. HUGE gun. Shooting it was like nothing with 44 mags. But then the gun was heavy and long. Another freind of mine had a .44 mag s&w with a 3 inch barrel. That thing i will never touch again. it kicks so hard after a few rounds your done. just too much kick on your wrist.

What kick?
Kick is when i shoot 500grain 45-70 with 21 inch barrle.
70gr bp load.
I built it to go with my walker.
bought the barrle from sarco.
