Anyone agree with me that this is about the ONLY "gun" movie with any credability?
Like the Mexican cop who takes a long distance shot BEFORE the "bang" is heard...
or the entire "last stand" against the Bag Men at the hotel...
The detail isn't flawless but it's the best i've seen
anyone have any suggestions for intruiging "gun" films?

It's a great one, no doubt. The only flawed bit (gun-wise) that stood out to me was the perfectly flat line of bullet holes form the full-auto Galil. Other than that...malfunction drills (with the shotgun in the kidnapping scene), one-handed shooting and reloading, good use of body armor (prevents fatal wounds, but doesn't make people invincible), etc, etc...

I agree. I love "Way of the Gun". The writer/director of the film is not your typical anti-gun Hollywood guy. He grew up shooting and was about to start training for the NYPD before his film career began. He is still an avid gun collector and shooter to this day. Also, his older brother - who is a NAVY Seal - helped train the actors in firearms and helped design realistic combat scenarios.
:)

Personally, I think the movie sucks.

However, I do enjoy the gunplay, and own the DVD.

I can watch the other movies mentioned in the thread, and own them on DVD (with the exception on hot fuzz, which I dont own or really enjoy), but with way of the gun, I tend to fast forward through it and just watch the gunfights.

My only problem with Hot Fuzz was right before they assaulted the grocery store one of the cops had an Enfield but the bolt was open.

Another good movie with good gun-play, though it's a brief part of the movie, is "Proof of Life". I thought the shoot-out scene when the hostage was rescued was pretty good.

I enjoyed "Smoking Aces" but it was pretty overdone. Some of the gunplay was interesting, and its funny to see Ryan Renalds (who doesn't know jack about handguns) blasting away and slamming fresh mags into his USP.
the .50 cal scene was cool but didn't feel right... opinions?

Quiglly down under, that custom sharps was something, "in the movie"

Blood Diamond had some pretty good weapon handling through out the movie.
Thief w/ James Caan. He went to Gunsite prior to filming. Good basic, slow, deliberate house clearing, not perfect but great for Hollywierd.
The Great Raid, especially where Ben Bratt's character works the bolt on a M1903 while keeping it mostly on his shoulder and keeping an eye on the oppo.

What Zach S said. Lame plot, really cool shoot out at the end.

As boring as the movie was, and as much as I can't stand Tom Cruise, Collateral was well done in the gun handling.

Credit Michael Mann with that. Collateral, Heat, Miami Vice. He gets it right more than just about anyone.

Ronin
Clear and Present Danger
Band of Brothers
Hamburger Hill
Blackhawk Down
Quigley Down Under
Zulu
Crossfire Trail
Open Range

I have to agree with most of your list except "Open Range", those scenes where a guy gets shot and flys 15-20 feet backwards just drive me nuts. :(

Someone else mentioned Proof of Life - it's true, that movie is not the standard Hollywood fare.

"History of Violence" Viggo's threat scan in his first shootout caught my attention. Very good movie, highly under rated.

way of the gun was good, so is man on fire. and running scared.

ronin and heat are also great.. but anything with robert deniro usually is..
