That would be my wife. It's her fault.

We stopped at the LGS yesterday to pick up the K-22 I had on layaway. While we were waiting I noticed a little waife over in the corner of the case, looking lonely and ignored. I had no idea what it was, but I could actually read the tag this time, someone made a mistake putting it back in like that, and saw it was a Smith and Wesson 32, Third Model. I asked to see it. Tiny little thing, even smaller than a J-frame. As I turned it over in my hand I noticed it was a five screw. That's always interesting. Then I noticed the knob on the end of the ejector rod. OK, so it's fairly old. My wife tells me it looks lonely and unloved. "You should buy it." I know an order when I hear it. So, I added it to the pickup list.

I have since learned that it's an "I" frame, the predecessor of the J-frame. S/N puts it as having been manufactured in the early 20's. Not bad for a 100 year old gun. The stocks are not correct, they are from a much later period, but they feel good to me,so I won't really worry about it. My wife went back to the ammo counter and came back with two boxes of 32 ACP ammo...NO! NO! Let me put this back. I did, and found a box of 32 S&W Long that cost almost as much as the gun. :) Bless her heart, she tried.

I don't know if I'll shoot it. Probably at some point, but she liked it so that's a good enough reason to get it. I gotta clean it today, and put a little ren wax on it.

It IS sort of neat.

To those of you who've been bored by this on the S&W forms. Sorry 'bout that.

Please Shoot it!

for your wife!

Thanks everybody. Shooting it isn't out of the question.

Full disclosure. Close examination reveals that it has been refinished, but it's not something I'll worry about. Like I said, it's good enough for my motley "collection."
If you got it for the price of a box of .32SWL, good show!

They CAN actually chamber and fire .32ACP, but only in an emergency. Like zombie apocalypse-level emergency, as ACP pressures are somewhat higher, and it can damage the ratchet, hand, and firing pin bushing even if it doesn't blow the cylinder.
But it is possible.

Shooting a small 32 like that is almost as “right” as shooting a K frame 38. The gun’s size and weight are absolutely perfect for the cartridge. I have a few 32s and I feel certain I will acquire more before my ticket gets punched. Yours is beautiful, and it should be shot and enjoyed.

Get the wife to shoot it, you may VERY quickly find out that you bought her a late Christmas gift.

I saw the thread title and immediately thought "Don Davis?"

Those of us old enough, and near enough to Indianapolis, will know who I'm talking about!

Don Davis was the owner of Don's Guns and at one point owned several 24 hour gun stores.

His commercials were memorable for his tag line "I don't want to make any money, folks! I just love to sell guns!"

(For the record, I visited Don's guns way back when I lived in Indiana and yes...he DID want to make money.)

Congratulations on having married such an awesome wife!

24 hours as in Open 24 hours a day???

that’s AMAZING and Don looks like he would sell a gun to a literal chicken

Naw...It's tagged at $399.99. I got it for a bit less.
Still a deal. My 30-1 was 159.99 a week before my first anniversary 12 years ago. With bidenomics in play I would say buying power is roughly the same. I would not have passed up a pretty i frame for that, especially a blued gun. A lot of the pocket guns of that era were nickeled which is also nice but is not my preference.

Now that you have an i frame you get to start searching for a terrier. That one will not be 4 bills unless you get extremely lucky.

Regardless of price, it’s yours now. Refinished or not it looks great and all the more reason to shoot it.
Congratulation! You have a couple of keepers. Your wife and that revolver.
My wife occasionally tells me I should buy another gun. It happens about once a decade. 😆
