Now talking about the Mosin.

As all of you know, if you try to close the bolt with 5 rounds in the magazine, pushing the top round down, there is no clearance and the bolt will touch the rim...anyway around that??? Does someone sells modified Mosin bolts??

Thanks!!!

I don't think so. I've never been able to anyways. If I'm hunting with one of my Mosins I just put four in and close the bolt since the safety is a PITA to work.

I don't really see a need for it though.

I'd like to see a 20 round Mosin magazine, similar to the 20 round Mauser magazine. But rim binding and the shape of the cartridge would create issues. The magazine would have to be curvilinear or semicircular, like a Chauchat magazine.

You could always try chambering a round and then loading from the bottom, that might work. It would probably be a serious PITA though, and almost certainly not worth the trouble, especially with no good way to prevent rim lock.

It cant be done with a stock rifle. The rifle was designed to be loaded only when the poop hit the fan, so they went with 5 round striper, with a magazine capacity of 4. the top one was to be rammed into the chamber for killing nazis and other undesirables.

To get a 5 shot magazine, with standard sized ammo, you would need to change the spring system for the magazine. that would possibly help.
could try an enbloc clip arrangement to really get 5+1 capacity.

The most obvious way would be to change the cartridge we all love. Youd have to remove the rim at a minimum. Ideally youd make it a rimless round, and reduce the case diameter till it was only .10" larger in diameter then the neck diameter. That would be the best bet. as that would allow use of a permanently installed chamber adapter and not need a new barrel.
But there is no real point in hopping the capacity up. This is a real mans weapon. It was given the ability with heavy ball ammo, to perforate 3 enemies at 1000 yards. And at that range it would probably mess up a oil drum.
At short range with any kind of expanding bullet, it kicks major ass. the only animals that may be too much for the barnaul 203 grain soft points may be alaskan and canadian grizzly type bears. Though the russians use that ammo for their big bers that are an average 700 kilos.

so it could be done, at great expense. you would not gain anything in the long run. However, you could extend the magazine for more capacity, but why ruin a good rifle.

Thanks!!

I was just curious...i'm not going to touch my beloved 3 Mosins...

Get some stripper clips and learn how to reload quickly. I've found that with practice reloading my Garand takes less time than dropping and stuffing a new box mag into some rifles. I'm no "operator" either...

As far as rim lock on the Mosin Nagant I found out, thanks to the folks here at THR, that the interupter prevents rim lock when working properly. Unlike the Lee Enfields I own witch must be loaded correctly to prevent "rim lock". It's still good practice to put the cartriges in correctly.
