Haven't seen this one up yet.

Locally there is a AMSEC 6032 for sale at $1300. I am trying to trade 2 guns for.(Norinco M14, and Springer GI)

Sifting through the search results I have seen recommendations of buying used safes. I have seen very little on what to look for. Anything specific? Think mileage or strange noises on a car.

Couple of questions:

Is the combination able to be reset by me?

Searching showed that the lock should have regular maintenance, what is the ball park cost of said maintenance call?

Any questions I should ask the seller?

Thanks in advance.

I sell the BF6032 brand new for $1,700. If it has a gloss paint job, it's a slightly better deal. AMSEC made a few other 6032 models as well. If it's one of the other safes, I wouldn't be offering him anywhere near the $1,300 price he's asking.

Make sure that it unlocks easily, and the door swings without dragging. It wouldn't hurt to have a locksmith look at it, same as you would have a mechanic look over a car.

Electronic lock, yes. Mechanical (dial) lock, no. If you're going to have a locksmith look over it anyway, he should be able to change the combination while he's there.

Depending on your part of the world, +/- $100.

If it's not modern BF6032, ask him what he's smoking. We usually sell our used safes at about 50% of their new cost. Gun safes tend to sell a little higher. If it is a modern 6032, I wouldn't pay more than $1,000. If it's an older model 6032, I'd probably offer something in the $600 to $700 range.

There will be a date sticker on the inside of the door. This will help you to determine which model it is.

One thing to look at on the BF series safes is the top of the safe around the outside edge. The original BF safes had a problem with rust blistering up the paint.
