Things you hear at the LGS......

I was in one of the local stores today looking for Federal Flight Control 00 Buck. All they had was the Personal Defense Reduced Recoil (1145 fps) stuff. I told the clerk that I actually wanted the full house 1325 fps loads because I was running it thru a Benelli and had had issues with other low recoil loads failing to cycle the action. He informed me "it will work fine, you just have to adjust your lead some"....

I replied that if the BG was moving so fast that I had to LEAD him, I'd probably pass on the shot anyway

The more I think about it, the funnier it gets. Any stories you want to share?

Sure, I got one. Guy at the LGS near my father in law was trying to sell him on a Sig P238 over the P938. Told us that the .380 was basically the same amount of power as a 9mm, since they were "both 9mms". Uh, OK........ So by that logic a .22 short and a .22-250 are basically the same power since they are both .22s?

someone last week tried to convince everyone in the LGS that with suppressors, every bullet strikes the baffles just barely, but consistently.

I'm wondering what the devil he thinks cycling the action has to do with lead time?




I remember one of my brothers having fixed up his .22 rifle to fire .22 shorts. (The magazine was designed to handle .22 Long and .22 LR, not shorts).

Anyway, he said he couldn't hit anything with is using the shorts. Which I though was unusual, having grown up a good shot as a hunter and later spending many years as a Marine.

We went squirrel hunting the next day, and I took his rifle to use. Only saw one squirrel the whole morning, pulling the old "hide on the opposite side of the tree" maneuver.

Being wise to that tactic, my brother walked a wide circle to a spot on the far side of the tree while I drew a bead on the area the squirrel was at and waited. Sure enough, the squirrel creeped around the branch to avoid being spotted by my brother.

I picked him off with one shot to the head.

When my brother walked back with the squirrel, I said "Shoots straight for me!".

His comment? "Smart ***".

I took it to mean that if you are wing shooting with a slower payload, you lead more. I'm not gonna be shooting at too many birds (or clays) with 9 pellet 00 buck.....

Just the other day the clerk was adamently telling my uncle who is new to pistols that the XD he was handling was a compact pistol. I pointed out to him that it was labeled "SUB-COMPACT" right on the slide to which he said "I can only go off what is written on the tags and it says it's a compact". He later admitted he was a rifle and shotgun guy and knew next to nothing about pistols.
