This ammo worth the low price?

Quite honestly, you can buy a 100 round box of Winchester 9MM at Walmart for about $20.00... while there's probably nothing wrong with it, for $3.00/100 more, the Winchester is a better ammo...

I have about 1200 rounds of WWB in my closet right now and I'm totally happy with it. Just curious if this other stuff was good enough to justify $30/1k savings.

I bought a case and have 100 rds left.

Fired every time, no issue at all.
I would say the ammo was a little dirty but otherwise shot fine.

I have no experience with their 9mm ammo, but the S&B ammo I have used has been very good quality. Plus, if you reload at all, the cases are also very good & long lasting.

I have better luck (accuracy, consistency, cleanliness) with S&B 9mm than I do with WWB 9mm.

Sellior and Bellot seems to make pretty good ammo overall. When I used to own a 9mm (and my father does currently), we both used/use the Winchester White Box (WWB) at Wal-Mart. Honestly, the quality isn't as good as Winchester's other stuff. Wal-Mart basically gives Winchester a price, and Winchester has to meet it somehow.

In my concealed carry class, the instructor advised against using WWB and proceeded to show us a cartridge where the bullet had been loaded into the case backwards :uhoh: . DOH! He said out of the 100, 7 were loaded that way. I still bought it, but paid attention to every round I loaded in the mag after that.

Go with either is more convenient for you. My dad isn't as comfortable making online purchases, so he sticks to WWB. Plus, it seems like every 5th or 6th box you get an extra round or two. It's like finding an extra prize in a happy meal for some people, I guess. I on the other hand find it more convenient to have stuff delivered to my door; I am just lazy like that :p .

I wouldn't hesitate about S&B. I've had very good luck with their other ammo. I caught Sports Authority some years back when the local one stopped carrying handguns/ammo. They had WWB 9mm for $5 a box and I bought 6000 rnds. God loves me more than most people. Only fair, of course. I'm much more lovable!

cbrgator,

I used to work part time at a range where we sold thousands of rounds of the S&B Range Safe 9mm. We also sold the regular 9mm 115gr FMJ offiering. I've shot several boxes of the Range Safe and will offer the following, all pricing and availability issues aside:

The powder is apparently different than the regular S&B 9mm 115gr FMJ. (I've fired thousands of these.) The Range Safe powder is dirtier and creates more muzzle flash. The ammo makes for dirtier guns, but not as bad as the WWB.

The rounds do not seem to be loaded as consistently as the standard fare. I have no evidence of this, just my gut feeling.

We experienced several situations where the Range Safe had malfunctioning problems in particular guns. Our Glocks ran fine on it, but a couple of our Sigs had problems as well as an older S&W Model 39 and IIRC a 1911 platform 9mm or two. All of the above guns ran fine on the regular S&B loads. A customer or two mentioned they had problems with specific guns also, but I don't recall what guns those were.

Bottom line:
Try a couple of boxes in your guns. If there are no malfunctioning problems and you don't mind the dirtier powder, go for it. I would not hesitate to shoot it in my Glocks, BHPs, or S&W's. It's good practice ammo.

Cheers,
dan :)

I consider S&B to be among the best ammo available. I’ve shot the ammo you’re considering with excellent results.

I too like S&B. Since I'm a strictly hardball guy, I used S&B as my carry rounds when I still had my Glock 19. Never had a failure of any kind in the approx. 1.5 bricks of it that I had.

There's a lot of good deals out there for ammo.....but you really need to get a fix on a particular company's shipping and processing costs....nowadays..that's where the 'deal' vaporizes!

Plus, if you reload at all, the cases are also very good & long lasting.

The ammo in question is clearly stated as being steel cased. As such, it is useless to reloaders.
If you don't care about that, then it seems that most are okay with it.

Sellier & Bellot

I have used it from time to time when I found it on special and needed rounds. Always shot good for me.

All S&B I have ever shot has been excellent ammo. In fact, it's overall my favorite brand for its excellent performance and value price.

I am somewhat disturbed seeing them copper plate steel though. While AIM is honest enough to advertise that, there are plenty of retailers who would sell it as brass and never tell you. I hope a trend isn't starting.

I have had no problems myself nor heard of any problems with S&B ammo, although I've not shot those particular kinds of ammo that you're considering. They are steel cased, so they're no good if you're a reloader.

I just bought WWB 9mm at Wal-mart (now at $19.97+tax for a 100:mad:), and if you include shipping, I wonder if they might be cheaper.

I find that I want to inspect all NIB ammo I purchase for the setback cases, etc. In all, I have found maybe 10-12 rounds that weren't safe to fire. That's such a statistical anomaly that I don't worry about specific brands. The only one I DO stay from is A-Merc. As That's where I have found the 10-12 rounds.

I found S&B to be well made and consistent. I don't care to use steel cased stuff though. They also offer brass cased.
