From the day I first heard of the 6mm arc months before it was released i knew I had to build a rifle, this has been a Journey of many failed attempts to put this gun together. Three times I had the barrel ordered and things fell through, finally got one. Also having to deal with new York and the "safe act" and it's hoops to jump thru, then ny and the latest laws on semi autos. Luckily I had the lower before the last laws were added.

This started out as a do all gun and was going to try for a lighter build with a 18" barrel but with the barrel Fiasco and some of the parts I had already it's now a longer and heavier rifle. Plus there was a few new ranges opening up so a longer barrel seemed like a better idea. So this will be more a target/ varmint gun but will definitely shoot some deer and for its size it handles better then I hoping.

because of the laws in N.Y. And since this will be more of a bench gun I decided this will be a fixed magazine so I can have some goodies on the gun. I'll explain how I fixed the mag if anyone is interested, it was way way cheaper then some of the options on the market and it work nice.

This is my first Shaw ar-15 and didn't know anyone that has one so figured to try one out, I've used many of there normal barrels and they always shot good for me and friends. Turns out this barrel shoots pretty dang good for the 30ish rounds I've shot so far. I was hoping factory ammo would be moa or just over, for what I'll be using it for and ranges moa will be plenty good. Well it shoots a bit better.

Build list ( don't have the actual list on had so may forget some stuff) I have about $900 into this rifle but money well spent so far.

Aero m4e1 lower
Aero m4e1 upper
Aero breach charging handle, large ambi
Shaw custom 6mm arc 22" stainless matte 1-7.5" twist . 750 rifle gas threaded
Diamondhead handguard 13.5" really about 1 5" overall
Toolcraft 6.5 grendel type ii bcg nitrate
Larue mbt-2 curved trigger
Laure A-peg grip
Aero rifle buffer tube extension, buffer and spring
Persma a2 rifle stock
Sperlative ss .750 adjustable gas block
Vg6 6.5 gamma break
Leupold mark ar mount
Sightron s-tac 3-16 scope
Cmc lower parts kit
Yhm extended takedown pins
Asc mag
Versa pod bipod
Anti rotation trigger pins
Quick home made sling

Think that's it, I wanted to get the magpul prs lite stock but with the leupold mounts height I think just a normal a2 stock is fine, tho I'd like to try one.don't have a scale to weigh the gun maybe a bit over 10 pounds not sure, it balances very well and is not front heavy.

After adjusting the gas block I shot a few groups, only 3 round to save on ammo but get a idea how it will shoot. Left is 105 hdy right is two groups with the 108 hdy adjusted turrets 4 clicks for the lower group. This was about 90 yards there was snow plowed up at the 100 line, was about 30° out with some 10-15 mph gusts.

Overall I've very happy with this build, some things may be changed out over time but I'm liking it so far. Thinking about doing a 16" 6 arc now lol.

Big thanks to loonwulf for the scope and ordering the barrel at a discount and js8588 for many parts used on this build, thanks guys really appreciate it.

@troy fairweather nice build!

Yes I’m interested in how you made the mag permanent plus how do you load the gun?
Thanks,
I drilled and tapped the mag release button, tapped 4-40 thread the screw needs to be .750 long. I didn't have the proper screws I'll order some but found 6" 4 -40 threaded rod at ace hardware and made 7 screws. I just filed in a slot for a flat head screw driver, proper screws are small Allen and need to order only $12 for 100 stainless screws. The screw will sit under flush and you epoxy a small amount to make it more Permanent, or some Silicone. I just some hard wax over the hole for now, either way you need tools to remove the mag. I have another way I like fixing the mag from the inside but if you get a bad name and the bolt is back you can't get the the screw to remove the mag if ever needed to clear the jam. You can pull the mags base plate spring and follower to help clear of its real bad.

Bad pic but gives you the idea.

Loading the gun I just pop the rear takedown pin and open it up and load the mag, it's actually not to bad and is pretty quick. Even 30° out with gloves it was easy. I found I can put 4 rounds into one of the mean mag loaders for 223 and it works but need to modify it to hold more.

Sweet build!!! Your parts list is half way similar to my 223 DMR build! Down to the Aero Precision upper/lower and LaRue parts! I'm sad you have to "pin" your mag but I'm sure you can get stripper clips for cheap online as most people throw them away and easily load your usgi mags with them. 6 Arc seems cool, but with the way my 223 shoots cheapo 55gr ball I don't think I'll be actively looking for a 6 Arc. Especially since I have a SR-25 Okie Redneck Edition ™ in 308 for sheer mass on target.
All in all, you put together a very quality rifle for not a lot of money! Under a grand is a killer value!

Thanks, I like the aero stuff, this set has a bit of wiggle, with a standard upper and a San tan it's tighter and it does have the screw to tighten it up but have to leave it backed out since I need this to open up easy to load. I only open the gun like 1/4-1/2 way to load so can't get the stripper clip in and there for 5.56 the arc is a bigger case. But I can load the mag with 10 rounds in 10-15 seconds so pretty quick. And on the bipod the gun pivets open easily.

I want to build that San tan upper with a heavy 223/5.56 barrel for the cheap 69 rmr hpbt's.

My bad, it looked like a usgi mag in your pic... And I should have known with the 6 Arc parent case being 6.5 Grendel, it wouldn't be the same lol. Sorry. Surely someone who knows more about that than me will chime in with some advice.
And, as an enabler of the month for March candidate, you should totally just copy my 223 DMR build, I won't mind! ;)

Lol ya it's just a asc stainless mag I polished up for fun, and kinda for that two tone black/stainless look lol. I'm not sure how I want to build the 223 upper yet, 20-24" medium weight of real heavy or threaded or none thread. I have the upper and another one of these handguards , so just need a barrel, bcg, gb, and some other stuff. Don't even know who's barrel to go with, I can get the shaws for $190 shipped.

Just finished a redux of my 6ARC....

McGowen 20" custom, .875 gas block, replacing a off the shelf 20" BA DMR "Premium" barrel. Squared the Aero upper which was out a good bit, then bedded the barrel with high heat sleeve retainer. Couple things I still want to change that won't effect how it shoots, just my ergo/comfort. Hopefully soon the snow will be gone and I'll be able to do the break in procedure.

Nice what tube and buffer you use with the or a lite, and how did the ba barrel shoot?.

Hmm, my Areo upper and Ballistic Advantage barrel were a very tight fit with no slop at all so it must be luck of the draw.

My ballistic advantage barrel is a 24in bull profile with a .936 journal. Sadly it's not threaded... You can get a Rock River Arms barrel basically the exact same but threaded If you want a 24in barrel. It's heavy but has mild recoil! 5.56 spec 55gr fmj smacks the crapola out of targets with the long barrel. Oh I actually ordered a normal gas block from BA, but they gave me a Superlative Arms adjustable one for free!! Nice bonus as I wouldn't really have paid extra for it lol.

Mine would slip in by had but no wiggle, probably tight enough of the upper was in the freezer and barrel warm they would be interference fit. It does have a lot to do with what barrel extension used, you can get plus sized ones.

Nice what tube and buffer you use with the or a lite, and how did the ba barrel shoot?.

BA shot good for a DMR, usually 2 sometime 3 in very close proximity and the others outside 1-1/4 to 1-3/8 , so groups of 5 were mostly 1-1/2ish no matter what I did to tighten them up. I've seen other guys post their BA groups and they were pretty much identical. 2 or three real close and the others being flyers. Perfectly acceptable for a DMR but not what I'm looking for.

With a rifle length gas system and carbine tube, I'm running a Springco Blue enhanced power spring, H2 buffer, Aero Adjustable gas block, Silencerco ASR brake. Haven't put the can on it yet but hope to this summer.

Yeah I noticed 55gr ball shot better than 77gr "match" ammo so idk what's up with that as it's a 1:8 twist... Weird, but different barrels will shoot different even if they are the "same" so as long as it fills the role you need it for I'd call it good.

I wanted the lite stock but really wanted to try the a5 tube and buffer but one of the other was always out of stock, then when I got the leupold mount line of sight is about perfect and don't think I'd need the check piece on the magpul. Plus that presma stock was only $20 and I have the rifle buffer parts.

How you like that aero block, I was going to try one but was always out of stock for the sale price, got my sa block on sale for $70 so good deal. I wanted to use the jp block but the gas block journal on the Shaw is 1" long and the jp block I wanted is 1 1 /8 of 1/4 long so some would be in the air where the barrel steps down to .740.
