I'll be at TDSA Sunday morning killing some steel plates. TexasSigMan will be there too.
Anyone going to make it? This isn't the monthly shoot, just shooting for the heck of it. :D

directions to the range can be found here: www.tdsa.net

Good chance to be out in the nice weather before it turns nasty.

Forecast is high 70's.. HighV has the key to the steel plate rack :D

Non TDSA members can go with us as guests, be a good chance to check the place out. We've about decided it's the only choice for any kind of moving or drawing from concealment. Every other range we've tried has pooped on one thing or the other.

I'm bringing various Sigs and 1911's, and my Colt Walker BP Revolver.

Think that .454 round ball and 50 grains of powder will knock a steel plate down?

If you can hit it. :neener:

Well that's always the thing huh?

If you've seen "The Outlaw Josey Wales" you'll notice that as big as the damned thing is you don't have to hit anything, just get close

The wind from the round ball will blow the plates down.....

The more the merrier. I'm all bagged and ready to go. Test and Tune and bangin' some steel. oh yeah.

I've already changed the time on my alarm clock and my wristwatch.

Well, 4 hours at the range is hard to beat!

As for the steel, it held up well to the .380, the .38 Special, the .357 Sig, the .40, .45, even to 2 boxes of .44 Mag.

But when the Walker came out, the weld on one broke and ran in fear.

Gary will be along to tell you how I only hit one plate with it, but the truth is I just took pity on the other 5 after breaking that first one. :D

Josey Wales wannabe in 5.11 pants with a Colt Walker 1
Steel Plate 0

When Sam Colt said the Walker was so big only a Texan could shoot one,
he was right!

Must have been some dang Yankee steel.....

Sorry I missed it. I didn't get a chance to even start packing up guns until 10am and didn't know if you all would still be around, so I drove out to Gibson's instead. That and I need to shoot some groups at distance to check this new barrel... mostly found out that I need to polish my own skills before I'll be able to know if the barrel is worth it.

We were there til maybe 12:30 or so. Finally ran out of ammo.
I ran through probably 300 rounds today, more than I've shot in months.

I expect this will become more than a once a month thing at least as long as the weather holds out. We'll post again next time.

That's good it will be a once-a-month thing since it will probably be another month before I get a chance to shoot again. I was looking at my log for that rifle, 3k rounds in the first three months of this year. 230 rounds in the last three months :(

It was fun this morning, even though it was cloudy and Windy and I was a little slow out of the gate but had fun regardless.
I probably fired about 150 rounds or so between 40 and 45. I couldn't hit squat with 180gr Blazer Brass in 40SW. Never buying that again.
165gr Gold dots were right on the mark though so I felt redeemed.
Played with the recoil spring in my Kimber, worked perfectly with hot stuff like 230gr Fed HST +P and Win Ranger 230gr +P but it did choke once on the Fiocchi fmj. Not quite enough juice to cycle the 22lb spring. Oh well, the quest for the right spring continues.
Maybe NEXT weekend.

Oh and that plate did break from the power of the Walker. Most excitement the whole morning.

Don't blame the ammo for your bad shooting skills :neener: I might be convinced to go shoot next weekend as long as I don't feel too bad from the surgery.

Count me in the next time please...

I am looking for a place to shoot my M4 as well as a few other I have just acquired. Is that the place? Where are other places here in DFW. Preferably Dallas or N Dallas area. Suggestions on where to go for .223 and 7.62x39 shooting ranges?
