Found this place last week and waited until today when the Big Brown Truck dropped off my newest Remmie.



On the top is the new one. A 5.5 inch Pietta from Cabelas, locks up tight with good timing, muzzle crown is very slightly off. It's still oozing the factory oil until I can do a detailed strip.

In the middle is an Uberti/Lyman .36 that I inherited about 10 years ago from a cousin. It's kind of just in my custody until his grandson is old enough to take over possession, another 3-4 years & he'll be17-18.

On the bottom is obviously a .31 brass frame ASM pocket model. I got it just 'cause it was a neat little thing.

On a side note, the .36 came to me with a spare Pietta cylinder in the box. Does not fit, didn't expect it to. The .36 was bought in the 1970s, no idea when the spare was obtained.

Are these dims more or less average?

My intention is to obtain a Pietta .36 and fit the spare to it and pass the Uberti on to the grandson. That way I have something of my cousins' to keep for myself.

Just got done doing some measuring on the new Pietta. Chambers are .446 and the bore slugs out at .453!

I think that my future will include the purchase of a .453 chucking reamer and a new round ball mold in .457

Here's my Pietta Shooter's Model Remington 1858. My old time shooting buddy sold me this last summer at the MVACA show. He bought it in 2002 from Dixie Gun Works. He medaled with at NMLRA Territorial Shoot several years ago. I guess my goal would be to continue the tradition but only time, patience, and a bit of luck will allow that to occur.

Guess I never did post a picture of my old warhorse in this thread. Sign me up please. This one I got in a deal with a bunch of Lyman molds. Looks like it was used ( abused is more like it) by a reenactor somewhere along the way. The carving on the butt says " 42 N.Y." "Co. K" I know it came from New York I'm told in the 70's. The proof marks show it to be a Uberti and that it was proofed in 1967. (XXIII) This old gal has more "character" than any gun I own. The front sight was replaced ( not too professionally I might add) and perhaps a trigger job was done. The trigger is at about 2 lbs and really crisp. Really smooth and the timing is good. Still shoots a bit high at 25 yds from the bench, but its not bad. The web on the loading lever is plum colored and the rest is blue. The grips are mighty washed out looking and there are a lot of scratches and evidence of some pitting here and there especially on each side of the rear of the cylinder beside the hammer. The jury is still out about me keeping this one...not too sure. Think I might like one of those 5 1/2 inchers.

That is a beautiful '58, but that loading stand is over the top! It is truly a work of art! Outstanding!

I have one of those old Uberti Remington 1968 made over the years the loading leaver has also turned plum brown.
When I got it it had issues with the cylinder pin being too tight to pull out by hand and the original owner had nicked the gun a little, getting it to move.

KBBailey is right! That's a spectacular loading stand.

But I have to wonder about the box/case behind it in the picture. Looks like another nice bit of gear. What is that? And is there a pic of it we could see?

Finally got one! It's a Christmas present from Cabelas. It's a shorty version, but it's still a '58 I suppose!

I gotta say that I was surprised by the weight and balance compared to my 7.5" ROA. It seems a little small for a big caliber. I can't wait to get to the range!!!

I've filed the hammer nose a bit so it fits in the safety slots for a tighter fit, lightly filed the edges off of the bolt as it was beginning to peen the stops, filed a burr off of the hand as it was scratching up the ratchet, and then lightly hand sanded the inside of the grips for a slightly smaller profile and better fit.

I intend on opening the chambers up a bit so that I can share bullets with my ROA (.455-.456").

I just got a Remy 58 Stainless (Target Model) and tried it out today. Great shooter, and deadly accurate. The only problem is my #11 caps wouldn't stay on. I got tired of pinching caps, and did more shooting with my 61 Colt Navy .36, and the 60 Colt .44 Army.
Anybody know if #10 caps will fit?

I hear Pietta's like Rem #10's. I'm not sure but I think a standard (non magnum) CCI #11 might fit similarly as my nipples (TOTW) claim were designed for them and the Rem #10 fits snug!

My Pietta likes CCI #10, I.e. the correct diameter. Remington #10 and #11 are the same, too large diameter. The difference between Remington #10 and #11 is length, not diameter.
