i'm new to this forum so forgive me if someone else has asked this question. does anyone own a tikka rifle or have handled/fired one before? i'm thinking of the t3 in a .300 wsm. any input would be appreciated.

All my experience is with their Whitetail Hunter series rifles. I haven't even handled one of the new T3s yet but if they're as good as the rifles they are replacing, they are value and quality leaders in the field of sub $1,000 rifles.
Accurate, reliable, good stocks, good triggers. What else do you want?

cratz2, thanks for the info. i just went to beretta's site and they show the specs in good detail. it's preaty much what i've been looking for in a deer rifle. lite,accurate and durable. now, if i could just finger one. i first saw this rifle in the recent issue of guns and ammo. wayne van zwoll recomends it to be of top quality....it must be semi-decent. thanks again! jeff

I like Rugers and Winchester and they've always worked out just fine for me, but I think the Tikkas and Brownings are pretty consistantly of good quality. Those two are probably the best 'reasonable priced' rifles... Sakos and Weatherbys are very nice as well along with the Coopers etc... but they do command a, deservedly, high price.
I'm sure the Tikka will serve you well.

I recently handled a Tikka varmint model of some sort in .223. The trigger and accuracy were impressive. I didn't care so much for the flimsy feel that the plastic box magazine had to it. Overall, a really decent rifle, with a smooth bolt throw.
Tikka would be my choice against just about any comparably priced rifle and I've owned most of them over the years. Accurate, smooth, adjustable triggers and generally handsome pieces providing you can live with their use of synthetics were others use metal.
I shot a .223 Tikka for years until I traded up to a Sako Model 75. The Sako is the most accurate factory centerfire I've ever owned and it's definitely a keeper.

I would go with a Tikka or a CZ depending on if I want a push feed or claw feed. The Tikka rifles are excellent for the money. It really feels like you should pay more since what you get is worth the money and then some...but who am I to complain! All of the Tikka rifles I've handled or shot were fitted very well, accurate, and reliable. Thumbs up!

looks like they are very well made. my biggest fear is accuracy. i hear how unstable the short mags are. in the article from the recent guns and ammo,van zwoll states the short mag(.270) did not shoot any better than a 3" group while the others shot !' or better. i'm looking to get a short mag if possible.

people don't like the new t3 because its mags are chintzy, same action length for short and long (seems wasteful to me)
but the main reason is that the "old" M595 whitetail rifle is about 25-125 dollars cheaper depending on source and caliber.

I've just placed an order for a Tikka T3 in .243 Win. at my local gun dealer. I've done a lot of shopping around at different dealers and with different brands of guns as well. For the money it just seems like Tikka's are the best buy around. Not to mention, what I've heard folks say about them here on THR, which was all good. This particular dealer is one of my good friends who is in feed/hardware/gun dealer business. Tax total and all is $459 and some odd cents. I thought that was a pretty good price. I believe it's a really good price now that I've seen other dealers in other states. Hope I made a good choice. Anyone have any good scope recommendations around the $300 dollar range?

newt, i have a burris 3.5-10x50mm in matte blue i'd sell for $200. i paid a little over $300 for it about 1 1/2 years ago. it has butler creek flip-ups on it as well. some scratches on the tube from being mounted but in perfect working order. you can e-mail me at [email protected] or post here if you like. thanks! jeff

My last new rifle was a Rem. Model 7. I ended up putting a Weaver Grand Slam on it. It's a great scope; I like it almost as much as I do the gun itself. I'm actually looking into putting something else on this gun. I'll post a new thread up and ask there as well.
