Titanium Tomcat!

Hmmm

Did a quick trip over to Beretta's website, and couldn't find anything about a Titanium Tomcat...if it helps, the regular one's weigh 14 ounces, so...shouldn't be any more than that.

Maybe it's new? I've never seen one like that before. I've been thinking about getting a Tomcat for a while now (just haven't had the money), so I'd be very interested in learning more about this thing...

It's been around for a while (almost a year?) now...I kinda wanted one before, but since I can stash my P7 away pretty well, lost the need for it.

Got a regular Tomcat. Hefted a Ti Tomcat at the dealer. Didn't seem lighter.

Now I see why, Beretta lists the Ti version as actually being heavier by 2.4 oz!
Must be because the standard Tomcat has an alloy frame that is already very light.

Great little gun, regardless.

2.4 oz heavier?!?! Why bother? I thought the whole point of Titanium was to reduce weight. It is also a much more expensive than the regular Tomcat.

I doubt that Kel-Tec has ever made anything that "outclassed" any other gun except for maybe a Jennings, maybe.:neener:

coldshot03/04,
I know your new here but this is The High Road and most people don't carry on like you are doing. You are giving the rest of us a bad name. If you are not adding to the thread, you really have no reason to post. To continue to take jabs at me because I don't like Krap-Tecs and you are in love with them because you have a P-32 that has fired 100 rounds without jamming only shows how unfamiliar you are with quality guns. Any good gun should go at 100 rounds without a jam, it is nothing to brag about unless you happen to own a Kel-Tec I guess.

I dont know Quality handguns? I have Springfield 1911 and Kimber 1911 handguns also. I like the Springfield a little better than the Kimber.
I also own BushMaster XM 15 223cal rifles. They will out shoot My Colts AR15 anyday. No I dont know Quality.
Keep playing with your Bersa and Firestorms. And your RAP
 Ill leave you alone for now.

PS Im not new just different handle.:D

KT's have a good rep in general but do have a rep for a little bit of work being needed to run properly and Ive read posts where the 32 becomes a pile of bullets and plastic in your pocket at times..............

Personally, Id take the Berreta. I like the Ti....comes with Tritium sights and frankly if its under 1 lb. my pocket wont notice the difference.
Ill take the TomCat.................................

Firestar/cold.....you guys need to get a room somewhere :what:
:neener:

Shoot well

firestar,

2.4 oz heavier?!?! Why bother? I thought the whole point of Titanium was to reduce weight. It is also a much more expensive than the regular Tomcat.

This is because Ti is heavier than Al, but much stronger. Like most small blowback pocket guns, the Al-framed Tomcat has a limited lifespan; they're just not designed to fire tens of thousands of rounds as a range gun. Sooner or later, the frame will crack from the battering it takes. Beretta initially countered this by beefing up the slide to slow its velocity; the "widebody" Tomcats have chunkier slides than the earlier models. The Ti-frame gun should also have an extraordinarily long lifespan for a tiny blowback pocket gun.

Keep playing with your Bersa and Firestorms.

bersa makes a good gun.

Anyway, 1 lb for a 32 is outrageous, especially when you can get one that weighs less than 7 ounces. Hell, you can get compact 9's that are only slightly larger than the beretta and weigh less. Now, if beretta made it with the aluminum frame and titanium slide...then it would probably be nice and light. Far be it for beretta to take a cue from taurus :D

I know Ti is cool and all... But is it really that much cooler enought to pay double that of a standard Tomcat? Your looking at almost 600 bucks MSRP for a little .32 pistol in the Ti version. That is way too much for a belly gun.
I see you can get tritium sights on these too. Do you really need tritium in a mouse gun? No, really... I'm asking the question. Do you really need sights at all?
Some of the slickest pocket guns (and I consider the tomcats and bobcats to be pocket guns) were done by some master gunsmiths and most of them had the sights smoothed off. The whole gun was "melted" to the extreme.

George,

I know Ti is cool and all... But is it really that much cooler enought to pay double that of a standard Tomcat?

It depends. Some folks run five-to-ten thousand rounds through their Al-framed teensy blowback Tomcat or SIG P-232 and are surprised when the frame cracks. A Ti- or Steel-framed version of the same gun will last longer at the expense of light weight (and cost, in the case of a Ti frame).

You makes your choices, and you pays your money. TANSTAAFL.

Do you really need sights at all?
Granted I like my sightless Seecamp, but the fact is that I'm addicted to sights, even tiny ones.

For mouse guns, I draw the line at bayonet lugs.

Am I understanding this correctly. The Ti Tomcat has a Titanium frame and steel slide, while the standard and stainless Tomcats have aluminum frames and steel (and SS) slides?
Or does the Ti Tomcat have a titanium frame and slide?

I can't comment about Tomcats at all since I have never handled or shot one. Seen em, kind of chunky is my impression. That is not to say that Berreta does not make some fine mouse guns. I have a Beretta Jetfire - in my opinion, the best little .25 caliber mouse gun there is - better than a BB gun? You bet! Better than a 9mm Kahr MK9 - oh my - no way.

But I do have a Kel-Tec P32. It is definitely not junk. It is a well engineered, very thin and light, .32 caliber handgun. I don't think it is particularly long term robust. A Glock is robust. But if all you do with a P32 is on occasion, practice fire a few rounds, and then rely on him only in a close range emergency, the little P32 will be okay.

I always like to say - the P32 is the ultimate semi-automatic derringer. Good for close range. Only when needed. Hide in plain sight. In that respect, the P32 as a hideout gun is better than a Tomcat, no matter what the construction - because it is lighter, thinner, and more easily concealed. The P32 unloaded weighs less than 7 ounces. I have carabineers that almost weigh as much. It floats.

I also believe that Titanium guns are a bit of a gimmick. I do not believe they are worth the extra cost. Steel and modern Aluminum alloys, plus the revolution in plastics, sort of put Titanium on that plateau of - I just got to have one because it is different. Just my two cents.

The little nub on the front of the Tomcat's barrel isn't a sight - it's a locking lug. Yer supposed to stick the barrel in the ear/nose/bellybutton rotate the gun 90 degrees and fire! Repeat as necessary.:D
