Guys, I'm going into a bit of a t-shirt business (Oleg, I wanna take your business away from Cafe Press - we gotta talk - can you say "dye sublimation?").

Anywho, I whupped up the accompanying (very rough and compressed copy of the) image. On a yellow shirt, the colors print as green, red, and yellow. Yeah. I know it's backwards. That's so it prints frontwards.

Yup. Pretty much the same colors as the Ethiopian flag, which seems to have been embraced by the African American community.

I think it sends a message.

I'm just wondering if I'm looking in the wrong direction. Kenn? You still out there?

So, Bogie... Did you buy the equipment to do the sublimation? I've kinda kept up with this stuff, since it is related to my business.

Last I heard, the advantages were: quick, easy, pretty good graphics.

Disadvantages: cost per print is higher than screenprinting, screenprinting is still more vibrant and longer lasting.

Not knocking sublimation, it is excellent for short runs or one-offs. The quality has come a long way in the last five years, but I don't think you can compete with the screen printers (once they steal your idea).

Of course, I'm not knocking your product, but maybe just the production method?

One-off (or a few dozen off...) is what I'm looking toward... Match shirts, etc., and maybe a few dozen for stuff like Knob Creek.

I've run a few shirts with the Hanes Softlink material, and it looks incredible. IMHO, better than a lot of screened stuff I've seen.

And you don't have the "feel" of screened or heat transfer stuff.

I've got some cash in, and I'm gonna see where it runs. May do some conventional heat transfer stuff. I don't really wanna get into silkscreening. BTDT, and the front end means a LOT of hassle.

Hey, if I need to print 100 shirts, I'm gonna do a deal with a guy about a mile from me.

If I need to print 10 shirts, I'm there.

If I go to a match, and have shirts available to print, and I get a dozen folks who want 'em, I can hook 'em up. If I have preprinted shirts, well, I may have to eat some.

Bogie,

E-mail me. I'm interested in doing some shirts to sell/give away to client agencies. Something with my company's logo, and some catchy phrase, like "When there's no time to think, you revert to your training." Would also like to put "I Survived" on sleeve.

We have an embroiderer who does nice work, and also does silkscreening, but they're often busy and are less interested in doing smaller quantities.
