My sister and her family stopped in to visit on their way to Myrtle beach for vacation this weekend. On saturday I took my nephew out to the range and taghht him how to shoot an XD9 and a Saiga 7.62x39. I briefed him on the 4 safety rules, the manual of arms for each gun, and the range hot/cold rules. We started with the pistol and then we fired the Saiga. He really liked the Saiga; after firing the first shot he yelled, "Wow!". After some more coaching, he was shooting pretty good, especially after we set up some reactive targets like old ammo boxes, pine cones and blocks of wood. We burned 100 rounds through the Saiga and were amazed at how fast it went. We took turns shooting just 5 rds for each turn, thinking that it would keep the us from getting bored if it wasnt our turn and conserve ammo a bit. It kept us from getting bored, but the ammo still went fast! A great day for the both of us!
