Trying to find something she can pass the CCW test with! well I will say it will not be a revolver as she pulls down with the DA pull and hits at base of target insteed of the target. I was a little fustrated so I handed her my Astra 100 45, surprise she put every shot in the very center. I had a little M43 Star she loved it hit very close to the center so I can quit looking.
The Astra and the Star have never failed in any way after 1000's of rounds. So I am not worried about them just glad I found reliable guns she can handle.

weird huh! We all think our wives should use a revolver; cause it's easier to learn, not so intimidating, etc. right? Wrong in my case! I had my wife try Colt and Smith revolvers, she couldn't hit anything. Let her try a Sig 229, shot the heck out of it; Go figure! Unfortunatly, she now thinks the Sig is hers! Matter of fact, she's had it for nine years now, and the only time she lets me have it, is to clean it for her! Oh well.:( :)

Wives are funny that way they think if they like it it is thers! I am going to try to convince her that the Star is the best as I love my Astra A100.

How is she with racking the slide? I have a friend that can shoot most of my semiautos fine, but doesn't have a strong enough grip to get the slide all the way back. But even when she's shot my Kimber Compact, it didn't look like she was going to lose the gun. Go figure. She also couldn't shoot my Taurus .357 for the same reason. Oh well, the 870 16ga that her daddy gave her ought to help out around the house just fine.

Freightman,
As you know in Texas, you can qualify for SA (to carry revolvers or autos) or NSA (other than autos). Last time I went through qualifications there were two poor women who ran into trouble when loading the magazine (have to do it 5 times under a time limit during qualification) &/or clearing a jam (if it jams you have to fix it on the spot and go on - again under a time limitation). They didn't pass. Add to that the fact that there is some pressure. During my qualification there were 10 people on the firing line that had to listen to and follow strict instructions, operate the gun, hit the target at various ranges, lots of noise & flying brass with about 20 other people behind the firing line looking on.

On the other hand, there were several women there that did very well. By the way, there were a couple of guys there too who ran into "operational" difficulties with autos and didn't pass either. So this isn't a gender thing. It's more a matter of being completely familiar with loading, operating and fixing minor mechanical problems - and being able to do it under some amount of stress.

The point being that simply being able to hit the target (which really isn't difficult at the fairly short qualification ranges involved) with a loaded and ready to go gun that's handed to you - in a realitivly stressless environment - with the knowledge that someone will fix it if it messes up - is not a good indicator that you will in fact be able to pass the CHL qualification session.

Hitting the target may be easier with an auto. But for someone who isn't necessarilly "into guns" - the inherant simplicity and reliability of the revolver may be the better option when considering all the other aspects of getting through qualification.
