I took my PLR-16 223 pistol to the DPMS range in St Cloud Minnesota recently and shot it on the 200 yard range. I was shooting about 3 inch diameter groups (my best groups) with my DPMS 308. I fired 30 rounds from the PLR-16 into roughly a 8" diameter circle. I didn't count the holes so there may have been some fliers but I saw dust behind the target with every shot. I was shooting from sandbags and using an Eotech holographic sight. I thought that was pretty spectacular for that pistol (for me). The ammo was DPX. We had some wind but it was blowing from directly behind us and didn't seem to be a significant factor.

The pistol exceeded my expectations and was easy to shoot. I have the Kel-Tec muzzle break and it was distracting the other shooters because the muzzle blast was blowing dust all over (they were friends of mine). My first group was about 4 inches, I didn't keep track of the rest.

I've got a Bushnell 2-6x scope on mine, it's really surprising how accurate the 9 1/2" barrel is, most of my 10 shot 100yd groups are under 3'' from a benchrest with cheap 5.56 ammo, might be able to do a little better if i could improve the trigger a little

Wow, I had no idea they were that accurate. Mine has been shot only at 25 yds. I need to get it to the outdoor range, yesterday.

Here's some of my PLR targets. I was either using a sandbag or bipod.

Wolf sucks, plus it jams in the chamber.

I found a few boxes of old PMC "Target" at a gun show.

I'm trying to resist the urge to buy one of these, and you guys aren't helping.
Go ahead buy one. The most fun gun I've had in a long time.:)

The price was up about $30 last week at the gun show.

I've got two.
Depending on how the election goes I plan on buying one or two more.

My range is only 112 yards.
I'd sure like to shoot the gun at about 300 yards.:)

I gave in and got one a few months ago. DO IT! It's so much fun and so politcally incorrect if you listen closely you'll hear the collective sobbing of the brady-ites worldwide every time you slap a 30rd standard cap mag in it.
It will also make you want a suppressor since the gun is good at loosening shoddy dental work in spectators, and removing siding or stucco from nearby structures. I put a cheap A2 flash hider on it (it throws a spectacular fireball without) and it actually seemed quieter, but maybe that's a placebo effect.
The handguard and sling are pretty much mandatory if you want to shoot it anywhere other than a bench, but they are cheap so don't let that dissuade you from buying one if it doesn't come with them.

When shooting both my PLR's several friends and I agreed that the one with the Phantom flash hider installed was the slightest bit quieter than the one without.
I believe it might be the fact that the fireball exploding in your face causes a lot of noise. No fireball, may be quieter.

No flash hider.

Phantom. No fireball.

How did you get those pictures??

That's just awesome.

I have the SU-16C (the carbine big brother to the PLR).

It looks like a lot of fun.

I've even been considering the SU-16D-9, which is the PLR with a shoulder stock (It's an SBR, but that's ok, Florida is an NFA friendly state).

There's a significant difference in price.

Should I go with the SU-16D or stick with the PLR?

Opinions?

....i soooo would love to have one.

It´s senseless, it´s mean, ... i want one,
the Zombies will be impressed!

It´s like the western-world version of a Krinkov, right?

I used my Sony digital video camera.

A friend shot the gun and I took the pictures.
We fired at least six times with and without the Phantom installed and at different distance.

Then I transfered the camera video to the computer hard drive using a program called Pinnacle Studios.
One of the features of Pinnacle Studios is the ability to "capture" individual "frames" and save them as ordinary picture files like .jpg.

The video was impressive, especially the closeups of the Phantom. I picked out a couple of the best frames.
But a "captured" video frame doesn't have nearly the quality or size of a still digital camera.

In the past we tried using a still camera to get shots of the muzzle blast of a AK pistol. It took us about 80 tries to get one fairly decent picture.

Have any of you with PLR-16s chrony'd the rounds coming out? I'm really curious as to how effective a 223 bullet out of those would be. I mean I'm curious, not trying to badmouth anything.

For the coolness or neatness factor I'd think about getting one of these. I was thinking as a car gun, jeez, the muzzle blast alone ought to knock a would-be attacker back let alone the bullet. Makes me think of the internet movie clip ad I saw for the Taurus "Judge" the 410 shotshell revolver. The guy unloads 5 rounds of 410 birdshot into a cardboard mock carjacker and although there were a buttload of holes in the cardboard, I don't think it would do a whole lot to actually STOP someone. Curious as to what kind of performance a PLR-16 would give in the same circumstance, b/c you could sure put a lot of rounds out quickly with it.

Yes.

55gr WWB FMJ= 2514 FPS
New Wolf 62gr FMJ= 2387
55gr JSP Black Hills= 2514
55gr South African FMJ= 2528

It will also penetrate 1/4 inch steel plate.:) (my 7 inch Bushmaster won't)

This is a 55gr JSP Remington .223 fired from the PLR compared to a 45ACP Gold Dot.

I think it will be "effective".

On heck of a weapon.

Not that I could ever see a reason to do so, but does anybody know if it is legal to C.C. one of these in Oklahoma? If my memory serves it obviously has to be a handgun, which this is; it has to be at or below a .45 caliber, which it is; but are there any laws regarding anything such as total capacity or barrel length? This would seem like the ultimate trenchcoat gun, although I would hate to hear what the opposing side's lawyer would say if you had to shoot somebody with it, lol.

Nice case Storm. It looks like a prefect fit.
+1, where did you pick that up? That would be a lot easier than wedging the PLR in my range bag.

He would probably paint you as a spitting image of this guy and use words like "mowing down" and "evil assault machinegun"

The bag is made by Tac Force (called T.T.S. Tactical Transport System, I think). I stumbled across these bags this past year. Although I'm not an Airsoft guy I stopped at Airsoft Atlanta to see what they had that would work with real guns. Although I don't see them handling the Tac Force bags anymore (now have mostly UTG) they had a good deal of Tac Force bags in various sizes. I acquired bags in various sizes for everything from a Desert Eagle, to a Brugger & Thomet PT-9, to my PLR-16, to my FN PS90. The bags ranged in price from about $32 to $38, an absolute steal. I've seen gun shops start to handle Tac Force and the prices for the same bag are now at least double. I've owned and looked at many bags over the years, and these are the nicest I've seen to date. The construction is outstanding and they are fully adjustable with velcro and webbing to hold just about anything. They have the little ventilated round fixtures for air exchange which is a feature that I really value The prices for this kind of quality were ridiculously low. Even with the raised prices that I'm seeing it's still a good deal.

The PLR-16 is a perfect fit in the bag (if anyone wants the bag size I can measure). There's plenty of room for mags in other compartments. Best yet, when the thing is zipped up other than the Tac Force tag it is very discreet looking like it might be a casual briefcase or computer case.

There are lots of sources on the web of these bags but the listings really don't show how nice they are or the features.
