I work in a hospital and was sent to a very basic active shooter school last week with a regional swat team training school instructing it. They started off seeing what each individual could do, what each 2 man partner team could do and then each 3 man partner team could do as there is 3 of us on a shift. The head instructor said we all did very well but he wanted to tweak a few things. We spent the next 7hrs fixing our “mistakes”. When i realized how intense this is with fire alarms going off, people running out of patient rooms, gunshot machines going off down the hall and in stairwells and the instructor popping out with a simmunition gun and slinging rounds at you I realized my basic academy and this training once a year isn’t going to cut it. He said my issue is i try and slice the pie or use cover and snipe when i need to be moving dynamically and firing multiple, accurate rounds at the shooter instead of tac tac. I inquired about training classes outside of work and he said they cost a min of $1500. What do you guys think i could get into that would help in a situation like this? Mainly accuracy shooting when moving type stuff. Our dept doesn’t have long guns because the hospital doesn’t feel we need them nor like the idea so this will be specifically pistol training. I’ve found lots of $100-300 classes locally that say advanced pistol, and stuff like that. I’m so used to just standing in a line with 10-20 guys and when the whistle goes off draw and shoot tac tac or 4 rounds.

Contact local, state, and federal LE agencies.

They often have capacity to train outside agencies and are willing to do so. In part to understand how other agencies are training and might react and how their own training stacks up.

Give it a try, they can only say no.

ITTS is run by Scott Reitz, former LAPD SWAT and LAPD SWAT trainer. You can look up more. He's qualified. At ITTS, an officer that has been through academy training can start at Handgun II. There is also Handgun III and Handgun Advanced classes, followed by a Master's Class. In addition to these handgun classes, there are also classes such as Problem Solving Tactics I and II, Anatomy of a Shooting, and more. I'm not mentioning any of the carbine, sniper rifle, or shotgun curricula.

Following is an older video, but notice the exercises to move dynamically and fire at moving targets -- what you specifically requested.

This is their Active Shooter Response training class: ITTS Courses : Active Shooter Critical Response (internationaltactical.com)

Here is the video:

This is a civilian focused class.

Besides the basic classes open to the public, ITTS has LE-specific classes: ITTS Courses : Law Enforcement/Military (internationaltactical.com)

Here is the LEO/1st responder Active Shooter Response class: ITTS Courses : Vehicle Assaults/Stops (internationaltactical.com) (the page title is incorrect, but the link does go to Active Shooter Response)

Each of these classes are two-days and cost $550 plus expenses (travel, food, ammo, lodging) -- but there are big discounts available for packages including multiple classes (20%), and they also have sales on class gift certificates (30%, typically around end of November). These classes would involve travelling to Los Angeles, but that should be a fairly easy and relatively low-cost destination.

One of the very best instructors on the topic of active shooters is nationally recognized instructor Ed Monk of Last Resort Firearms Training. He has studied the topic intensely for over 15 years, and brings a deep understanding of what is required to minimize casualties in an active shooter situation.
You can find many interviews with Ed on the topic, as well as videos of portions of his classes. One set available is Active Shooter Interdiction playlist on Active Self Protection Extra channel of YouTube.
Ed is a friend and my primary instructor; I completed his Active Shooter Instructor course last fall. If you can get to any of his classes, do so.
