Long and short of it: that’s an early trapdoor, actually converted from a civil war Springfield rifle-musket, and is probably in .50-70 (unless a subsequent owner has rechambered it in the last 130 years or so.) Yours is in rougher shape so I’d not count on it to pay for retirement, but it’s a cool gun and the 50-70 versions have a lot of Indian wars/buffalo hunting era heritage.
 
Not a conversion, just using leftover rifle musket locks, new barrel and receiver.
I cannot find serial numbering for the 1870 but most were made in 1871-1872.
