Now my trigger pin and my hammer pin have backed out about a half millimeter for no compelling reason. Any way to get them to stay put?

Do they back out any more than that? If so, make sure the shepard's-crook retainer is in place. If they back out a little (mine are a little loose as such) but won't push out further, it's all good. Just buy a retaining plate if you want them a little tighter, to replace the shepard's crook.

Is the shepard's crook retainer the little spring the safety lever sits in? I reinstalled it after I made my rifle the cleanest thing ever to come out of Romania, but how do I know I did it right?

Half a millimeter?

Can you pinch the heads with your fingernails and pull them out?

If not, you're fine. These are Kalashnikovs, not precision target rifles.
