Does anyone know anything about this stuff? I have been all over the web an I have found very little.

I came across several boxes of Triton 110gr .357 Jhp ammo at a local gun store. The product number on the box is ATHV357164. I may be mistaken but I believe that this is part of the old high-vel line and being that I believe that Triton is now out of business, I am assuming that this must be some old ammo that was picked up by this shop in a bagain bin somewhere. Cost was 16.00 per box of 50. (Also on a side note, when I opened one of the boxes there were 6 fired cases sitting inside of it.. definately bargain bin stuff )

I am just planning to burn it up at the range as I don't really trust it for sd duty, but out of curiosity, does anyone know what the ballistics or performace (penetration/expansion) of this load would be?

It's made by American Ammo. I had bad luck with a box of it recently - VERY inconsistent powder loads - one round like a 38 SP, the next 'full house'. Scary.

Triton is out of business. I think you are correct; I believe what you have is old ammo from them. American Ammo made Quik-Shok, another Triton product, after Triton folded, but I am not aware that they cloned the Hi-Vel line, too.
I have a box of the original Triton ammo, and the address listed is in Milton, NY.
I wouldn't shoot American Ammo in your gun... much less mine. If what you have is from American, I'd be very cautious.

The Aftermath

Well, I thought it was the old stuff, but it turns out that this crap is the re-labled Triton from A-Merc. :uhoh:

I turned the box over and there was their name on the bottom. Yuck.

So here I am with 100 rounds of this stuff. SD duty it definately out at this point, but what the hell I said to myself, I'll just burn it up and see if it shoots.

So, I headed out the back door to the back of the property with the bogus Triton and my 2 1/4" SP-101. Once I got there, I set up a target, loaded my revolver, took a good hold on the gun, said a quick hail Mary, sucked the last bit of flavor out of my juicy fruit chewing gum, took a deep breath and with great trepidation squeezed the trigger....... and heard "Pop" ... thud.

What we had folks was a squib. On the very FIRST round! The primer went off and the bullet landed in the dirt literally at my feet. There was no powder in the case at all. I was so surprised that I forgot to be mad! lol

Well, So much for the Triton. I definately won't be using anymore of this junk. That one shot told me all I need to know. ;) As for the remaining rounds, I am just going to pull them with my bullet puller and throw them in the trash. I don't think that I even want to save the bullets from these pathetic things. LMAO.

Actually, it could have been worse. Since the rumors about the crappy QC on A-Merc ammo are apparently true it could have been a double charge instead of a squib. That would not have been funny at all
