Truck Gun/Plinker

I am looking for a truck gun/open sight plinker. It looks like I might be workin' in the middle of nowhere for a while, and I'd like something that would work for bustin' hoggs, SD, etc. I am thinking Semi Auto or Lever Action. I want it to be cheap and bomb proof.

SKS seems to fit the bill.

Is there something else I should be looking at?

A SKS with a rear peep sight would be the best in my opinion, its what i use now.

Didn't mention the sight, but that is what I was thinking.

Any of the standard semis, ar, ak, sks, mini, others im forgeting, should work well for what you want. The SKS is probably the cheapest

How about a Rossi '92 trapper in either .357 or .45 Colt?
Short, handy, lightweight, low recoil, 8 shots (9 in '38spl) and very accurate out to 50yds without any effort at all. They can be had for around $300 +/- on the used market.
I know I wouldn't be without mine & I can't imagine anything that would be better.

bolt action maybe?

Maybe a Ruger bolt action .357? My vote is the SKS as well but this rifle have managed to make it onto my list.I don't know how much you want to spend but I'm thinkin you could use some light .38 specials for small stuff and full house .357mag for bigger critters. Its not a semi or lever but still interesting
