"Truck Guns"

Self-defence, I have a '700 for hunting.

Isn't the GSG-5 a SBR, if so, I can't have them in Alabama. :fire: If so, well, then thats a great idea.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling, aluminum foil alert.whoop, whoop.
^Hehehe :D

No the standard (rifle) model comes with a 16+" bbl and a fake suppressor...but they aren't cheap enough for a truck gun IMO, as they will run $500+. I would go with a lever gun that you can find on the cheap if you can carry loaded. If not then a detachable magazine fed weapon is in order, and to be honest I can't think of one that would meet all the criteria of a truck gun (CHEAP, light, short, reliable, accurate, and deer caliber). The NEF rifle/shotgun might be an option, but certainly not my favorite gun. :)

I keep a Maverick 88 Field model in my truck. Bought it used in a pawn shop for cheap, ordered a Mossberg 18.5" barrel for it. Got just a little over $200 in it. And kept the longer barrel in case a buddy ever needed to borrow it to hunt with.

I guess I have a different understanding when it comes to "truck"guns. Living and ranching here in rural South Texas, a truck gun to me is one that you have handy in your vehicle whether it be a jeep, utv or truck or tractor. They are carried for generally running ranch roads, repairing on fences, shredding, working cattle etc. For the most part it's for taking out coyotes, hogs, rattle snakes, a ocassional mercy killing and such.

Personally, the shorter and smaller and light weight the better for manuverability, something that can be stuck through an open window in a vehicle. Those might include and not limited to a 16" AR carbine, 16 1/4" T/C Encore or Contender, 10" Ruger SBH, .410 Snake Charmer , a Taurus judge or shortened lever gun. During deer season the firearm might change to one that is capable of handing a deer.

Different strokes for different folks, your milage will vary.:)

dubbleA, you read my mind. A gun for the truck that can be a dual purpose deer gun.

But, I just asked my mom, that if Alabama laws are with me, if I could carry in my truck, and she said NO, darn...... :banghead:

Dang.............I'm sorry that I started a new thread in the first place.......

My $150 Norinco SKS /w Tech rear peep sight, and extended butt pad (Now it's my ~$250 gun with upgrades). Perfect truck gun.

Anyone seriously know what is legal in Michigan as far as loaded weapons in vehicle passenger compartments?

Even if someone did, it would be unwise to take legal advise from anonymous people on the internet. Do some research, find a legitimate source, and verify what you find.

Not trying to chastise you, just suggest that you learn how to watch out for your own bacon. I'd imagine that one would get a funny feeling in one's stomach when telling a judge that you "asked some people on the internet and they said it was legal".

Are you selling the F-150 anytime soon???

Sorry P.B., its already gone. It might have been a first truck for three other guys by now but it could still be out there!:p The handi-rifle is gone too, its just not your day.:)

FWIW. loaded long guns are legal to carry in a vehicle in Alabama, no silly permits required(provided owner isn't otherwise barred from having a firearm, convicted felon, underaged, etc). Handguns in a vehicle, however, must be concealed and owner have CWP.

When I was living in Northport (and going to the U. of A.), my truck gun was a Win. '94 SRC. If I drove a real truck today (rather than a mini-SUV), I'd still carry that same rig. It gets the job done without triggering the "Oh no, it's a black scary gun!" reflex.

I keep an 870 in the pickup most of the time with an 18" barrel and something like 7 slugs. When I travel, I'll take the armalite ar10 carbine with the corbon 130 grain tipped barnes x bullet. pistol usually on me, so I don't leave one in the truck.

And i would assume thats why theres an entire section of this forum devoted to legal matters.

Most of us who post regularly in Legal tend to include references to the actual state law so it's not so much taking "legal advice" on the Internet as much as talking to people who know where to look it up a little quicker.

As for Michigan:

In order to transport or possess rifles and shotguns in a motor vehicle, Michigan law requires that they be unloaded and be one or more of the following: broken down, enclosed in a case, carried in the trunk of the vehicle, or inaccessible from the interior of the vehicle.

I agree with the poster defending the MN. It may be low priced, but that doesn't make it low quality. For 69.95 plus shipping, I got a very accurate rifle built like a tank.

It meets the requirements for a truck gun in that:

1 - it was inexpensive, so if it gets stolen...I won't cry too much.
2 - it is not a safe queen beauty so if it gets a few more dings, no big deal.
3 - it fires a very powerful round suitable for more than just self defense
4 - the ammo is cheap (right now)

Drawbacks? Five rounds. Bolt Action. But this is a truck gun. For just in case. If you knew you were about to get into a drug cartel battle, you would bring your ARs, right?

The only REAL drawback I can see: Length. The MN 91/30 is almost 50 inches long. 48.5" Not very HANDY.

But that can easily be solved by getting a M44. :)

That said: I have a Ruger Mini-14 for my truck gun. Stainless with a mussette bag of 20 and 30 rounders.
