Trying to decide on a Pre-Election Rifle

hopefully the gun issue takes a back burner to healthcare, economy, etc.theres no way they will go door to door collecting all the guns,i'd like to see that :what:

Sorry about that Avenger. I assumed that people on these sites are pro-gun ownership, and might be interested in backgrounds of the opposition party.

Oh, we are pro-gun ownership alright, and we are interested in/ and we do look deeply into the backgrounds of the opposition.

Just, we try to make an effort to stay away from politics around here. It has led to...unfortunate threads in the past. We used to have a Legal/Politics forum, but that was deleted in a large housecleaning move a while back, and now, we try to take our politics to APS.

Just a friendly warning/reminder without having the mods get involved before stuff can get out of hand.

Is there a FAQ on AR15's here? I find it amazing that you can just purchase lower receivers for an AR15 and get the rest without a problem. I've never owned, much less cleaned an AR, so I don't know what is involved in putting one together by parts.

Is there any lower receiver that is identical to an M4A1? What are the lower receiver differences for differing calibers, ie: .223 and .308 variants?

I see on auction sites a California legal LR which probably has some limitations, what would those limitations be?

*I'm not in California

Nothing amazing about it. For legal purposes, an AR lower receiver *IS* the firearm, with the serial number, and goes through the same checks as a complete rifle if you're buying from a licensed dealer. All the rest is *just parts*, so no legal problem buying via mail, etc.

California has additional legal requirements. I think the lower receiver has to be designed so it can't use swappable magazines. The magazine is somehow "built-in" with a limited capacity (10 rounds? dunno). But again, if you find a CA-legal bare lower receiver, you will jump through the same hoops as a CA-legal complete rifle.

Lowers are easy to assemble, with no special tools required. An AR wrench is handy for putting the receiver extension (buffer tube) in the receiver with a torque wrench, but you can use a strap wrench. Uppers are a little trickier, and require a block to hold the upper receiver in a vise, and a barrel wrench.

I think I figured this picture bit out. CZ 550 Safari Classic 375 H&H

Nice rifle! But, were you unsure of whether you could find this type of weapon after the election?

Mine is going to be a DPMS LR-Series in 6.5 Creedmoor. Then all I will have left is a STG-AUG clone in 6.8 spc. After that they can ban what they want if they win, I will have all I need.:neener:

Ed, how does the Creedmoor 6.5mm variant match up against the AA creation, the Grendel? Can you point me to any publications or ballistics that compare the two? Thanks.

Edit: It would seem that the 260Rem has higher velocity than the 65G due to a larger cartridge, and the 6.5CM > 260Rem in velocity/energy. I take it that the primary application for this caliber is hunting, which then would yield a viable hunting rifle on the AR10 platform. Is that correct?
