ultrasonic cleaner

Hope I'm doing this right....This is my first posting... I've recently purchased an ultrasonic cleaner and was wondering what cleaning solution works well for Glock pistols? I'm a bit leary of putting my duty weapon in a water bath.. Anyone have any recommendations??

I use Simple Green in the water. Use hot water to rinse, then spray with Break-Free.

Ultrasonic cleaners for firearms usually have cleaning solutions that are made for firearms. You'll also need to blow out the majority of the water and then drop it into a water displacing oil/solvent to make sure all the water is out of the inner workings. I'd put it in a smaller metal container of water displacing product in the ultrasonic bath to "pop" the water out and then lube.

I have used the Lyman cleaner on my glock with great results. Be careful as I have read some mixed results and some discolored guns from using certain solvents. I have personally used the lyman on several of my handguns including 100 year old antiques....

I'm not going to recommend one cleaner or another. I don't even use an ultrasonic for my brass. What I can tell you is that ultrasonic cleaning works by creating very small cavitation bubbles at the surface of the part which collapse at a very fast rate creating impacts into the thousands of psi.
start with just plain water and see how it goes for a length of time. Then try something as simple as a little bit of dish soap to lessen the surface tension of the water. If needed, start buying other solvents to aid the cleaning process.

Solvents only break down materials. Detergents attach to materials and remove them with the aid of something else like water. Ultrasound uses physical force to blast away material. Combinations of ultrasound and solvents or detergents can vary immensely.
