Well, don't know what happened to the original question but here it is again.
Does anyone have a Unique load for a 45 Colt using a 255 gr. bullet round nose flat point from an older reloading book? I got a pound of Unique from 1999 and I wanted to see if the new book and old ones are similar.

lyman 47th lists 8.5 max~845fps, 6.0 min~590fps w/255, but the lee 255g mold i have looks a lot more like lymans 250g mold than the lyman 255g mold.....
..........the 250 Lyman bullet (lead also) is listed start 6.9~595, max 9.0~875-also noting this load duplicates factory velocity
the new lee (2006) manual list 8.0g as start and max load for 250g lead bullet (no listing of unique under 255g) at 850 fps 13000psi

The Lyman 49th edition lists the 255 gr. at 8.5 MAX also for 845 FPS so it doesn't look like Unique has changed. I'll work up a load for my .45. I just wanted to check to make sure it didn't go through a big change that would change the loading data.

Unique has not changed enough to matter in any of our lifetimes.
The only significant change was a few years ago when they did the "cleaner burning" magic to it.
BTW: 8.5 / 250/255 is the standard .45 Colt load in my household.

I tried a lighter load to test. Worked fine. Changed it up to 8.5 and the results were great. So far that was the most accurate load in my .45 Colt.

i wonder whats with the lee loading than cause it was pretty low psi like ~11000 i think
..... yep just checked, i was wrong earlier i9t is at 11800 psi and 8.0gr listing 850 fps 250g bullet. kinda funny lee does not actually make a 250g bullet mold though..... id think thered be more listings for 255g and 252g and whatever else he sells lol

oh, for accuracy, i have tried titegroup, trailboss, unique, and universal. i am using the universal w/7.6g and 255g for little bit under 940fps i got 5" group freehand @ 25yd an i aint really that great a pistol shooter yet lol. off a log pile i got 3' by 4.125" at 33yds with ~5.4g trailboss, and same distance got 5"x5" with titegroup, dont remember the load. i do like unique but ran out!

Unique is a good powder. I also use Universal. Very similar performance.

It's sort of funny that the one powder I always have on hand is the oldest in production, Unique. It turns out to be the load of choice for one of the newest calibers, 357 Sig. Go figure.

There is No tested load data for any Lee bullets in the Lee Loading manual.
Lee does no testing or publishing of loads. Even for it's own bullet molds.
Everything in the manual is just a collection of load data from the powder & bullet manufactures using other brands of bullets & molds.

Which is why I didn't buy a Lee manual. I wanted a manual where they did the testing as I can get powder manuf. loads from their websites. I got the Lyman and compare the loads with the stuff from the manufacturers data. I downloaded the Alliants manual (PDF format) and just print the data that I need.

i got the lee 2nd free with the single stage press im currently using to size bullets, also for sizing/deprime cases when not sizing bullets.

Ideal # 38, 1951, lists 9.7 grains of Unique for Lyman # 454190, 255 grains.

Alliant data list 9.5 gr. MAX Unique using a Speer 250 gr LSWC with an OAL of 1.6 @ 940 FPS.

That might have been fine in 1951.
They still made cheap replacement parts & oversize bores for Colt SAA's then.
Ruger hadn't thought of making a .45 Colt Blackhawk yet.
It is probably just fine in a modern Blackhawk.
It is an excessively heavy load in a Colt SAA or any of todays Colt clones, and would shake a gun apart in short order!
The 8.5 grain load mentioned is just pretty close to the old black-powder load in power and gun life.
