Jake, I like Campus Concealed Carry Now!

And I like the "self defense" one - why? Give those to folks who can't quite get their heads around the whole "gun" thing... The more people who faculty see with 'em, the better.

I also think that negativity here is a good thing... You're illustrating that you have No Choice (gets the "choice" folks' engines started...) which means No Chance (ohmigawd!). Kinda trying to use some of their stuff and turn it...

In 2005, the Supreme Court decided again that police have no legal duty to protect an individual (Castle Rock v. Gonzalez)

Jake: I just read the remarkable document in the link you provide in your signature. It is a very sobering decision by the Supremes exonerating the police from any obligation to prevent criminal violence. I reccomend it to everyone. We all know that the police can't be everywhere protecting everyone. The writer's comments about so-called anti-domestic violence groups that discourage abused women from arming themselves was particularly illuminating.

rainbowbob,

Gee thanks, I was quite surprised myself when I first read the article. I'll probably never be in a situation that requires more protection than the woman needed in that case. So, the case has awakened me and serves as a good one-liner with support from the highest court in the land. There are plenty of other similar cases, but the cases from the Supreme Court carry significant weight.

-Jake

P.S. I apologize what I said about you regarding other threads. It was unfair. I hope you didn't stew over it too much.

Not at all, Jake - but thanks for the High Road apology. We all get passionate about the issues presented in these threads, and as I wrote in a later post, I'm as guilty of Monday quarterbacking as anyone. These are, after all, high stakes, life-and-death issues we are discussing. I'm just glad I've found an on-line community where we can talk about this stuff in a constructive, civilized way - even when we don't agree with each other.

it is funny and sad at the same time that the supposed intellectuals on college campuses across the country refuse to accept the fact that those who have CCW permits are MORE law abiding, safer, and in general more aware of their surroundings, and so contribute to decreased crime. how is it that the data is ignored by these people by personal bias is held as fact? this is anti-intellectual to me
