Back when I finally decided to start participating in some public internet firearm forums I hadn't yet had the need to come up with any user/forum names for anything, so I had to think about it.

Being unable to instantly come up with anything suitably vague, and being unwilling to give it more than a couple moment's thought, I decided to use something more or less related to the nature of my firearms interest.

I had recently returned from my first Colt AR armorer class back then, and the rapid cyclic rate of the AR bolt carrier group just sort of bubbled up in my thinking to result in "fastbolt".

Nothing mysterious, related to angst from earlier in my life or anything else that might be connected to me in any way.

Just what came to mind in order to avoid putting any real mental effort into it ...

My Dad played basketball at Wake Forest University (the Demon Deacons) and wore the number 25. I use this handle to honor him and I miss him every day.

It is appropriate for this forum, as he taught me gun safety and how to shoot, in that order!

As today is an especially good day to be a Wake Forest basketball fan, I'll give a loud

"GO DEACS!"

Deac25

During the fight against the "It's a Crime, Bill" I closed my business and started a newsletter called Armed and Safe. Later I started using the name for some business purposes. It was great fun to display my press card "A&S News Service" and tell liberal reporters what "A&S" stood for. :D

Perzactly the same thing here when I signed on to packing dot org, looked around, and on my coffee table was a box of 230 gr hardball. Hence "230RN."

preachnhunt (Post 84), I had to clean the sodie pop off'n the aforementioned coffee table when I read that one.

RP = the initials of another internet name I used on a friend's forum

88 = 1988, my birth year

My "real" name is that of the main character in a television program aired in the era I was born, so I could probably get away with using it and not risk being outed. No, it isn't James T. Kirk.
