Has anyone seen, shoot or bought one of the new Colt Woodsman repro from USFA yet? If so how is it?

No, no & no.

I was about to order one from Davidson's last night - the only distributor - but they are listed as ALLOCATED. That means their favorite dealers got them all so far.

I suppose I'll wait for production to catch up.

John

The Woodsman repro is not on the USFA site today and it is not in the PDF of their print catalog. Even the "woodsman" Maxim silencer is illustrated on a Ruger.

just buy a S&W 41 or a new or used citation high standard, they are a lot better gun than the woodsman

I've got them all, remnants of a little collection of .22s otherwise broken up some years ago.
The Woodsman has the style, the M41 has quality, the High Standard is what I pick up when I want to get good hits.

For the price, why not just buy an original Woodsman ?
Plus, isn't the repro a copy of the 1st series ? Not my favorite. I think the 2nd and 3rd series look a lot better.
It's just hard to beat a Woodsman. Very nice guns.

That must be an awesome shooting HS! My Woodsman Match Target was as accurate within it's range as an riflle I've ever shot. I think the Woodsman also has plenty of style and quality as well. I know the Model 41 and the HS Citation are quality firearms,I just don't see them as better than a Woodsman. YMMV

I had 4 colt woodsman, as well as hi standards and sw 41's . The colt wooodsman is a close copy of the early hi standard model A & B with some improvements.

Over the years the colt wooodsman stayed close to its original design thru out its production.

Where the S&W 41 and Hi Standard citations, continued to evolve over the years into a more versital gun with interchangable barrels, sight options and gun configurations.

Talk to any 22lr bulls eye shooters and they will tell you that the Hi Standard Citation and the S&W 41 dominated the field for the last 40 yrs.

The Colt is a good gun, but it failed to keep up with the competition and not many shooters used them.

here is a pic of a 1930's vintage hi standard model b, as you can see the designs are very close and I think the hi standard model b pre dates the colt woodsman.

I am not actually interested in buying one, at least not now. I was just wondering if they were actually being made or just more vapor ware. Also, if being made are they as good as the originals?

xr1200:...The colt wooodsman is a close copy of the early hi standard model...
It's the other way around. The Hi Standard was copied from the JMB designed Colt Woodsman.

I have no idea why USFA chose the first series Woodsman to reproduce. Colt fixed all the faults of those first series by.....making the second series Woodsman. (arguablly the most sought after due to the location of the mag release)
